At Mahdlo, we want Oldham's young people to be able to grow up and say "I'm glad I had the opportunity to do that".

About us

Did you know that we're a charity? Most people don't, and think we're part of Oldham Council! Every year we spend over £1 million supporting more than 2,000 young people from across Oldham, providing opportunities, opening doors and developing their skills. Everybody has that "I wish I had the chance to do that when I was younger" moment. But at Mahdlo, we want Oldham's young people to be able to grow up and say "I'm glad I had the opportunity to do that".

  • 🏉 Rugby Legends Reunited at Mahdlo 🏉 What a night! Our Tales from the Locker Room event brought together rugby greats and local heroes for an unforgettable evening of stories and community spirit. Hosted by Terry Flanagan MBE and Kevin Fitzpatrick, the sold-out night featured appearances and messages from legends including Barrie 🏉 McDermott, Kevin Sinfield, Iestyn Harris, Paul Sculthorpe MBE and more - and even a surprise visit from football icon Paul Scholes! ⚽ A huge thank you to our sponsors M & C Risk Solutions Limited, Mick Swift and Amari Plastics for making it possible. All proceeds from the evening helps us to continue to be there for young people across the community. Whether it’s Guy Time; a dedicated space for young men to talk and build positive relationships, or inclusive sessions that make sure those with additional needs and disabilities aren’t left behind. https://lnkd.in/eHy8XT6c

✨ 14 Years at Mahdlo! ✨ On the 17th October 2011, I started work on with the founding team at Mahdlo for the very first time as Junior Zone Co-ordinator and 14 years later, I’m still here… now as CEO. Someone once told me, “you should only stay somewhere for three years, then move on.” I’m so glad I didn’t listen. In these 14 years, I’ve grown, developed, learned, stumbled, and succeeded. I’ve worked my way from the frontline to leading this incredible organisation and I’ve loved (almost!) every single moment. 2020 was a baptism of fire, but even then, the resilience and heart of our team and community shone through. I’ve poured my heart, soul, blood, sweat, and tears into Mahdlo, but truthfully, it’s never really felt like “work.” It’s a privilege to be part of young people’s journeys, to watch them grow, thrive, and believe in themselves. Today feels extra special, as I was delighted to receive an Honorary Fellowship for Services to the Community from University Campus Oldham . To make it even more meaningful, my six-year-old son, Henry, walked in the procession with me, holding my hand, a moment I’ll treasure forever. I hope it inspires him, just as today has inspired me all over again. To everyone who has supported me, challenged me, believed in me, and stood by me, thank you. 💛 Here’s to many more years of making sure Oldham’s young people have the best possible opportunities to thrive. The journey’s far from over, there’s still so much more to do. Mahdlo Youth Zone OnSide #Mahdlo #Leadership #Community #YouthWork #Oldham #Gratitude #Inspiration #ProudMoment

  • What a brilliant morning we had here at Mahdlo! On Tuesday morning, we were thrilled to welcome Andy Burnham, Mayor of Greater Manchester, for our Business Breakfast. It was great to see so many familiar faces from the local business community, as well as plenty of young people from Oldham College who joined us to be part of the conversation. Andy spoke about his hopes for young people, his vision for Greater Manchester and how we can all work together to build a brighter future for the next generation. A huge thank you to BTM Wealth Management for sponsoring the event, to Holiday Inn for supporting us with breakfast, to Chris Wareing for hosting, and of course to Andy Burnham for taking the time to visit. And finally, thank you to everyone who came along and helped make it such a great morning. We’re proud to bring our community together to support young people in Oldham!

  • 🖤 Black History Month 🖤 We're proud to celebrate the beginning of Black History Month! This month is a chance to recognise and honour the achievements, culture and contributions of Black communities - past and present. Throughout October, we'll be running activities for our young people that celebrate identity, creativity and heritage. It's a also a time to learn something new along the way! 😊 We believe every young person should feel valued and inspired and Black History Month is one of the ways we celebrate the richness and diversity of our community here in Oldham. 💛 Thank you to our staff, volunteers and supporters who make these opportunities possible. Together we can continue creating spaces where young people grow, learn and thrive. 🙌 https://lnkd.in/eHy8XT6c

  • We’re incredibly grateful to the Peter Harrison Foundation for making it possible for our NextGen Leaders in Sport to enjoy an unforgettable trip to the AO Arena in Manchester to watch live football. ⚽ For many of them, this was their very first time experiencing the excitement of a stadium - the energy, the atmosphere and the sense of community that comes with being part of the game. Moments like these inspire confidence and teamwork that last well beyond the final whistle. 🙌 Opportunities like this wouldn’t be possible without the generosity of partners like The Peter Harrison Foundation who share our belief in creating meaningful experiences for the next generation. 😊 With thanks to Forever Manchester for the Free Tickets. 💛 https://lnkd.in/eHy8XT6c

Today I wanted to shine the spotlight on Skipton Building Society Oldham Branch for their incredible support of Mahdlo Youth Zone! Over the last year, the Skipton team at Oldham have nominated Mahdlo twice for their Community Giving Scheme, giving customers the chance to vote. This year’s voting closes on Friday 3rd October so if you are passing the Skipton Branch make sure to pop in say hello and make your vote for Mahdlo. Going above and beyond the team decided to take on the 3 Peaks of Saddleworth challenge raising a staggering £1,116, they’ve been involved in our Christmas Collection as a shop and drop location, providing hampers and PJ’s to our young people and our back to school stationary collection. The team also wear our bright yellow Mahdlo T-shirts on a Friday to raise awareness and spread the word about the work we do here and that itself is just amazing! Their generosity, energy and commitment mean so much to us, from fundraising to hands-on volunteering, you’ve helped us create more opportunities, memories and support for the young people of Oldham. If you'd like to get involved and support Mahdlo drop me a message today 😀

  • The countdown to Christmas has officially started! 🎅🎄 That’s right, it’s 100 days until the big day and at Mahdlo, Christmas means more than a gift. We’re already planning how to make this festive season magical for the young people of Oldham and over the next few weeks, we’ll be sharing ways you can get involved - because as we all know, Christmas isn’t bought, it’s built. Built from paper stars that never quite sit straight, cardboard crafts covered in too much glue and jokes that make everyone groan but you still laugh anyway. This Christmas, we’re helping young people and their families build memories that last a lot longer than the wrapping paper… However you want to support this Christmas, together we can make sure every young person feels seen, supported and celebrated. Let’s make it a Christmas to remember. ⭐💛 https://lnkd.in/eHy8XT6c

On Friday, we hosted our first ever Charity Sports Day, going head-to-head with our recruitment rivals, Forward Role Recruitment, in a series of classic games. From egg and spoon to tug-of-war, the competition was fierce, and together we’ve raised almost £900 for Mahdlo Youth Zone! 💙 For those who don’t know, Mahdlo is a brilliant Manchester-based youth and community charity, providing opportunities, support, and safe spaces for young people to grow, learn, and thrive. A huge thank you to Brian and the team at Forward Role for getting stuck in (we’ll see you at the rematch 👀), and to everyone who donated. And of course… the real highlight? The sponge throwing finale, where our teams donated for the chance to soak our bosses with buckets of freezing cold water. Safe to say, everyone walked away a winner. 💦😂 #Charity #Community #Teamwork #Recruitment

🌟 The power of partnership 🌟 Today I had the pleasure of visiting two incredible organisations here in Oldham that Mahdlo Youth Zone is proud to work alongside. First stop was Oldham Boxing Club’s refurbished centre, what a fantastic space! For the past year Mahdlo has supported the club by hosting their youth sessions in our boxing space whilst the building work has taken place. Having Eric and the team with us each week has been wonderful, and after 13 years of collaboration, I’m so excited about what we’ll continue to achieve together. This evening, I also visited Oldham Theatre Workshop’s new home, an inspiring space that sparks creativity the moment you walk in. We’re at the beginning of an exciting new project in partnership with them, and I can’t wait to see young people in Oldham benefit from it. 👉 If you work with young people aged 8–19 (or up to 25 with a disability), and are looking to explore a new partnership or a free space to deliver your activities, please get in touch. At Mahdlo, we believe that collaboration is the key to ensuring the young people of Oldham can be the very best they can be. We can only do it together. 💛 #Partnerships #Community #YoungPeople #Oldham
