Understanding the Mental Health Continuum and its significance in the workplace Mental health isn’t binary. It doesn’t fit neatly into categories like 'well' or 'unwell.' Instead, it exists on a continuum: a dynamic spectrum that reflects fluidity, showing that mental health can change over time and that people can move among states of mental wellbeing regardless of mental illness. This continuum illustrates that individuals diagnosed with a mental illness can still experience high levels of general mental wellbeing: for example, someone with a diagnosed mental illness who is managing well through medication, supportive relationships, and effective coping strategies can lead a very healthy life, while someone without a diagnosed mental illness may exhibit low levels of mental wellbeing. In between lies a wide range of experiences, from coping and surviving to struggling and needing support. Recognising that we all exist somewhere on this axis and can shift along it, depending on life circumstances and coping abilities, is crucial for employers and leaders. It enables us to: - Recognise signs - Create psychologically safe environments - Respond with empathy - Tailor support to individual needs - Reduce stigma around seeking help A mentally healthy workplace is not solely about crisis response; it involves proactive support, early intervention, and normalising conversations across the spectrum. By moving beyond labels and viewing mental health as a fluid, human experience, we can foster appropriate understanding and action. Have you observed the continuum in action in your workplace? #MentalHealthAtWork #WorkplaceWellbeing #Leadership #Culture #MentalHealthContinuum #PsychologicalSafety #EmployeeSupport

Inspiring a culture of people wellness and reducing mental health risks.
About us
We are Mental Health In The Workplace, a training provider, co-founded by Gary Johannes and Tamsen Garrie, both of whom have been supporting organisations and the well-being and development of the people who work within them, for longer than we can remember! We work in partnership with organisations to reduce mental health risk by inspiring a culture of wellness and creating a working environment where people truly thrive, so that the organisation thrives by default. We specialise in providing training specifically around mental health and well-being, training that is unique in that, in addition to the generic content provided by other training providers, it incorporates the most up to date neuroscientific information and knowledge available, genuinely equipping people to manage their own mental health, so that they can be the best version of themselves in every area of their life, including their work. Our facilitators are not only competent trainers, they are also qualified and experienced therapists, running their own practices where they successfully treat individuals suffering with stress and anxiety and a wide range of associated mental health issues, everyday. As a result, our training: - Increases Understanding and Self-Awareness - Improves Confidence and Competence - Inspires Self development and Behavioural change - Incites Action and Intervention Our philosophy is simple: We believe that every human being has the right to understand what stress is, what creates it and how it impacts the brain and the body, so that they can take responsibility for their own self-care and proactively minimise the possibility and the impact of stress, both in their life and work. And we believe that organisations that inspire a culture of wellness and create a working environment where people truly thrive, will ultimately thrive as a result.

Today marks World Mental Health Day, a global reminder of the importance of mental wellbeing and the need for accessible, inclusive support for all. This year’s theme, “Access to Services,” resonates deeply with our ongoing commitment to helping organisations improve mental health in the workplace. Over the past months, we’ve been delivering Mental Health for Managers training, and one message stands out: It’s not the manager’s role to resolve a mental health issue. It is their role to create the conditions that reduce work-related stress, encourage open dialogue, and make conversations about mental health normal, easy, and stigma-free. Managers are not therapists - they are culture shapers. By fostering psychological safety, listening without judgment, and signposting well, they help build a workplace where mental health is supported, not sidelined. To support them in this, we’ve developed a dedicated Mental Health Services Resource, designed to help managers and individuals access the right support at the right time. Let’s make mental health part of everyday leadership and access to support real. https://lnkd.in/eZnuwR8u #WorldMentalHealthDay #MentalHealthMatters #MentalHealthAwareness #MentalHealthAtWork

“High-Functioning” Doesn’t Mean Someone is OK Some people can be high-achieving, productive, and engaged—and still be struggling. High-functioning anxiety & depression are real. They often look like: 🔹 Perfectionism & overworking 🔹 Avoiding delegating because “it’s easier to do it myself” 🔹 Feeling overwhelmed but unable to say “no” Just because someone seems fine, doesn’t mean they don’t need support. #MentalHealthAtWork #WorkplaceWellbeing #LeadershipMatters #EndTheStigma #BurnoutPrevention 💬 What’s one thing workplaces can do to better support “high-functioning” employees?

Mental Health Training for Leaders: A Must, Not a “Nice-to-Have” Would you promote a manager who had zero training in financial management? Probably not. So why are so many managers promoted without any training in mental health and people management? 🔹 80% of employees would rather talk to their manager about work stress than HR. 🔹 But 60% of managers say they don’t feel equipped to support struggling employees. #MentalHealthAtWork #WorkplaceWellbeing #LeadershipMatters #EndTheStigma #BurnoutPrevention 💡 Should mental health training be mandatory for all managers? What do you think?

The Workplace Mental Health “Illusion” Most companies today have an Employee Assistance Programme (EAP). But here’s the uncomfortable truth: 🚨 Less than 5% of employees actually use them. If mental health support exists on paper but not in practice, then it’s not support—it’s an illusion. ✅ Does your team know how to access mental health support? ✅ Do your managers encourage open conversations? ✅ Are employees using your wellbeing initiatives—or avoiding them? #MentalHealthAtWork #WorkplaceWellbeing #LeadershipMatters #EndTheStigma #BurnoutPrevention 💡 If not, what needs to change? Let’s discuss 👇
