Thoroughly enjoyed a recent visit to Mental Health Matters East Berkshire crisis haven. The team work alongside an integrated clinical practitioner enabling people to move seamlessly through crisis pathways and receive appropriate interventions in a timely way.
Last night, the Mental Health Bill took a major step forward in Parliament. This marks an important moment in modernising legislation that hasn’t seen substantial change since 1983. The bill marks real progress in addressing the disproportionate impact of current detention provisions on marginalised and racialised communities. It also strengthens individual rights, helping to better protect people’s liberties and dignity during a mental health crisis. Last year, Mental Health Matters warned that this bill couldn’t afford to get, once again, stuck in the parliamentary processes. So, our thanks go to the Minister for Women's Health and Mental Health and her team for their leadership in sponsoring this bill and driving long-overdue reforms that pave the way for more compassionate and equitable care.

Last Friday we celebrated World Mental Health Day 2025. Our First Mortgage team came together across all our branches to support Mental Health Matters, raising awareness of mental health and the importance of talking, listening, and looking out for one another The team all donated to wear GREEN a small gesture with a big message. Each of our offices also created Positive Walls, filled with handwritten affirmations and kind words from colleagues to colleagues because you never know how much someone might need a boost. Why is this important? Because poor mental health costs UK businesses between £42 billion and £51 billion every year through sickness absence, presenteeism, and staff turnover. But beyond the numbers, it's about people and making sure everyone feels seen, supported, and safe. Let’s keep the conversation going, not just today, but every day.
