A full house at FOOTPRINT+ for “Regenerative Places: Net Zero Benefits the Whole Community” Our panel drew a packed crowd, with standing room only for a conversation that got to the heart of what regenerative development really means. ModeScore’s Bryan Patrick Ross opened the session by reframing walkability as a tool for social cohesion: “Walkability is also strongly associated with social connection… That chance encounter in public space can be a powerful antidote to loneliness – something cities urgently need.” Anna Hollyman (UK Green Building Council) called for a fundamental shift in systems thinking: “We need to move from a degenerative approach to a regenerative one – and that means aligning national policy, industry frameworks, and local strategies.” Imandeep Kaur (CIVIC SQUARE) brought deep insights on community-driven development, while Alastair Mumford (MCS Foundation) spoke to the critical role of lived experience in understanding the real impact of retrofit: “People who’ve lived through these projects offer essential insights into how change works on the ground.” Thanks to everyone who joined us, and to our brilliant panellists for such a wide-ranging and grounded discussion. The future of sustainable real estate depends on designing with people, place, and long-term value in mind. #FOOTPRINT2025 #ModeScore #RegenerativeDesign #NetZero #SustainableTransport

We’re proud to be headline sponsors of next week’s BREEAM Awards, alongside ActiveScore, celebrating the world’s most forward-thinking sustainable buildings. This year’s Awards are particularly meaningful for us, with our assessment systems being used in partnership with BREEAM Official’s to judge the Transport category. “BRE’s work continues to inspire what we do at ModeScore and ActiveScore. We’re thrilled to support the Awards again this year.” – James Nash. Transport is the biggest contributor to urban air pollution, and cutting those emissions is central to our mission. “I’m looking forward to seeing how this year’s projects are tackling the challenge head-on,” adds James. “It’s where real change happens.” #BREEAMAwards #ActiveScore #ModeScore #SustainableTransport #GreenBuildings

London is embracing a cycling revolution. According to The Economist, the City of London Corporation's recent traffic survey revealed a 57% increase in cyclists over the past two years. This surge is largely attributed to the rise of dockless electric bikes, such as Lime eBikes, which are transforming urban mobility by offering convenient and sustainable transportation options. This shift not only alleviates traffic congestion but also contributes to reducing carbon emissions, enhancing air quality, and promoting public health. London's experience underscores the potential of micromobility solutions in reshaping city landscapes. Micromobility is a cleaner, smarter way to move, but sustainability doesn’t end at street level. A new partnership between Lime and Cyclic Materials brings scalable rare-earth magnet recycling to e-bikes and e-scooters, tackling a major blind spot in the materials chain. Responsible innovation means looking beyond emissions to consider what goes into the vehicles we rely on, and where those materials end up. Transforming our urban environments is essential for creating safer, more sustainable cities. 🏙️ However, meaningful change often faces deep-rooted barriers: Baseline Syndrome – People tend to perceive their current environment as 'normal,' making it difficult to recognise gradual declines, like reduced biodiversity or increased congestion. Motonormativity – Society often prioritises drivers' rights, excusing dangerous behaviours while resisting infrastructure that supports active travel. Resistance to Change – Even community-focused projects like parklets or traffic calming measures can face opposition, despite clear benefits. Cultural Shifts – Just as public health campaigns have redefined smoking, urban design can reshape how we move and connect. At ModeScore, part of our mission is to influence these behaviours, not just through certification, but by setting a new standard for sustainable mobility in real estate. We understand that change is not only about infrastructure; it's about shifting mindsets and fostering communities that prioritise active, low-carbon transport. 🚲🌍 https://lnkd.in/g7RCkXXR #UrbanDevelopment #SustainableCities #BehaviouralChange #ActiveTravel #ModeScore
