The Forest Finance Roadmap highlights two breakthrough solutions that could transform how we finance forest protection at scale: 🌿 Jurisdictional REDD+ (JREDD+) — rewards entire states or nations for verified reductions in deforestation, aligning finance with government policy and channeling benefits to Indigenous and local communities. With high-integrity credits coming online by 2026, JREDD+ could mobilize $3–6 billion per year. 🌎 Tropical Forests Forever Facility (TFFF) — a proposed long-term mechanism that would provide annual $4/ha payments to forest countries that keep their forests standing, creating a durable incentive for protection without adding to debt burdens. Together, JREDD+ and TFFF demonstrate the “portfolio approach” in action — linking carbon markets, public finance, and development goals to make conservation economically viable. 🔗 Check out the Forest Finance Roadmap here: https://lnkd.in/dstzuGxZ #ForestFinance #JREDD #TFFF #COP30

Nature4Climate aims to increase action on natural climate solutions in support of the 2015 Paris climate agreement.
About us
Nature4Climate is a multi-organization strategic communications platform to help raise the profile of natural climate solutions and catalyse action on the ground. Natural climate solutions are proven ways of storing and reducing carbon emissions in the world’s forests, grasslands and wetlands, and better stewardship of the land also has impact on other critical environmental, social and economic benefits, which are less well understood. These solutions are available immediately, are scalable and can transform key sectors of the global economy, such as forestry and agriculture – and they are available almost everywhere on the planet. Despite the fundamental science being very well understood, action on land use remains much underused as a climate strategy – lacking the funding and attention that has helped kickstart the energy transition. We use creative communications and advocacy to influence international climate policy, national government policy, and private sector action on implementing natural climate solutions between now and 2023. We bring together voices from governments, IGOs and NGOs, and business – underpinned by a steering group with communications and advocacy representation currently from CBD, CI, TNC, the UNDP, WHRC, WRI and WWF.

Nature4Climate is a global coalition powered by some of the strongest voices in the nature movement. Next month, this movement will once again come together at the Nature Hub Pavilion, located in the #COP30 in Belém. Over two weeks, we’ll host a vibrant programme of partner-led events, open to all with Blue Zone accreditation — ensuring nature is heard loud and clear during climate negotiations. The full programme will be available online soon and we still have a few event slots available! If your organisation is looking for a space to host a nature-related event in the Blue Zone, please reach out to Emmylie Borg Nilsson at [email protected]. This year, our focus is on three critical pathways: 1️⃣ Advocating for policymakers to lead with nature, driving bold action to integrate nature and adaptation into climate plans, finance, and implementation. 2️⃣ Mobilising business and finance to invest with nature, through blended finance, carbon markets, debt swaps, and direct community investment. 3️⃣ Elevating the voices and impact of nature-based solutions practitioners, Indigenous leaders, and local communities, those restoring ecosystems and building prosperity on the ground. 📰 Our activities will be supported by Nature’s Newsroom, our dedicated media platform for climate action and leadership at COP, including nature’s press office and live coverage from the ground. Huge thanks to our partners already making the COP30 Nature Hub Pavilion a reality: The Nature Conservancy, National Audubon Society, Conservation International, BTG Pactual, KPMG, BirdLife International, Forest Stewardship Council, NatureFinance, Race to Belém, and the Blue Carbon Action Partnership (Friends of Ocean Action),

#opinion. Trellis carries a commentary from N4C Chair Lucy Almond advocating for the adoption of a new term to replace carbon neutrality so private sector actors may accurately "communicate their climate progress in terms that most people can easily understand.
Why it’s time to find a new term for ‘carbon neutral’ 🤔 Written by Lucy Almond, chair of the Nature4Climate coalition and the strategic communications lead for the Tropical Forest Alliance at the World Economic Forum.

Euronews covers the latest Forest Declaration Assessment report that finds 8.1 million hectares of forest were permanently lost last year, an area roughly half the size of England. This exceeds the annual rate of forest loss needed to meet 2030 goals by more than three million hectares. The analysis shows the world is 63 percent off target to meet 2030 goals to halt deforestation. The report also notes public subsidies funding forest protection equal just 1.4 percent of public money spent on deforestation related activities. Today, the UN Environment Programme released two critical reports that underscore the immense value of tropical forests and the scale of investment needed to safeguard them. 1️⃣ The 2025 State of Finance for Forests: Unlock. Unleash. reveals a staggering US$216 billion annual finance gap between current forest funding and what’s needed to meet global goals by 2030. Despite international commitments, only US$84 billion was invested in forests in 2023 — and much of it is misdirected. Meanwhile, agricultural subsidies that harm forests exceed US$400 billion annually, driving the loss of 2.2 million hectares of forest each year. To reverse this trend: * Forest investment must triple by 2030 and increase sixfold by 2050. * Forest protection — the most cost-effective strategy — requires just US$32 billion annually by 2030, yet covers 80% of the land area needed. 2️⃣ The second report, High-risk forests, high-value returns, highlights the immense societal value of 391 million hectares of tropical forests most at risk of loss: 💧 Water regulation: Preventing pollutants and sediment from entering rivers, sustaining rainfall patterns and irrigation. 🍽️ Food security: Supporting 10 million people through crop pollination. 🔥 Energy and livelihoods: Providing essential resources for 25 million low-income individuals. 🌪️ Disaster resilience: Preventing US$81 billion in losses annually. Context Newsroom interviews Guyana’s Vice President Bharrat Jagdeo who talks about the country’s dual strategy of expanding oil production while preserving its forests. Context highlights that revenue from oil is being used to fund low-carbon development and that Guyana aims to be a model for balancing economic growth with environmental protection. To protect its forests, Guyana is relying on nature-based carbon credit sales to fund conservation efforts. You can read more about this topic and check out more news in the N4C Weekly Brief. 🔔 LIVE FROM BONN 🔔 The Article 6.4 Supervisory Body members are meeting in Bonn until #tomorrow. All eyes are on the #permanence discussions and whether the rules to be adopted tomorrow would #exclude nature 🌳 from Article 6.4 Here are my takeaways from this week so far: 1️⃣ The power of global engagement: The overwhelming reaction from countries, NGOs, multilateral organizations, communities, and businesses has had an #impact. It was encouraging to see some members from both forest and non-forest countries making real-world arguments on why the exclusion of nature would move us further #away from achieving the goals of the #ParisAgreement. 🚨 👉 Now, let’s see if and how this is reflected in tomorrow’s decision. 2️⃣ Alternatives to “indefinite” post-crediting monitoring have been emerging: 🌐 Options of fixed monitoring periods: right now, they range from less than 30 years to over 100 years 🌐 There’s also an option to introduce only a maximum post-crediting period, leaving the exact length to be further defined in future methodologies 🌐 Yesterday, there was a proposal to separate the liability for reversals from the liability for monitoring 🌐 One proposal to leverage “nesting approaches”, where national governments would assume monitoring for activities where that’s already ongoing (REDD+). 3️⃣ Despite that, some countries keep pushing for indefinite monitoring liability. The argument: "Article 6.4 is supposed to be about credibility". A few thoughts: ✅ Yes, credibility is essential! But a mechanism that cannot be implemented in practice won’t help us meet the goals of the #ParisAgreement. 🌳 The #IPCC is clear: without nature, we cannot meet the temperature goals. Excluding nature will, in practice, INCREASE the certainty of a warming planet. 🚨 TOP PRIORITY: We need flexibility and risk management mechanisms to address the risk of reversals, including buffer pools, insurance products, and transfer of liability to third parties — Article 6.4 needs to 👉 ENCOURAGE much-needed innovation in this field and not disincentivize it. (Kudos to the #UNFCCC Secretariat for presenting options!) 🌎 From one SBM Member yesterday: “Allowing nature will create a long-term liability for the atmosphere”. Let’s look at the #fullpicture here: The non-permanence standard is not meant to stand alone - It’s part of a broader set of standards that already impose strong safeguards and conservative baselines. In fact, the #BaselinesStandard approved in May is so conservative that some analyses suggest that, on average, only about one-quarter of emission reductions from nature can be credited. There is already a significant #buffer built into the system, and this cannot be ignored. 📣 If we continue layering conservativeness on top of conservativeness, we risk making the mechanism unworkable in practice. We’ll end up with a system that is so risk-averse it cannot deliver mitigation at scale. More updates once we have a final decision!

⏲️ Countdown to COP30 #WithNature. Durwood Zaelke, President of the Institute for Governance & Sustainable Development (IGSD), explains why cutting methane and other super climate pollutants is the fastest and most impactful way to slow global warming. 1. These short-lived climate pollutants are responsible for nearly half of all warming, but cutting them brings rapid results 2. 90% of the benefits come in the first decade. 3. Cutting methane can deliver 4–5x more impact than CO₂ reductions alone. 🌱 Importantly, many nature-based solutions (NbS) directly contribute to methane reduction. Practices like silvopasture, improved rice water management, and enhanced livestock feed strategies not only restore ecosystems but also curb methane emissions at the source. These approaches are vital for achieving a nature-positive, climate-secure future. Watch our latest video in the Road to Belém series to learn why fast action on methane is critical to a nature-positive, climate-secure future. #RoadtoCOP30 #RoadtoBelém #methane #climateaction #withnature #naturepositive #cop30

There’s little debate about what stole the spotlight for nature, especially forests, during Climate Week NYC: Brazil’s announcement to invest the first $1 billion in the Tropical Forest Forever Facility (#TFFF) raised hopes. But the absence of follow-up commitments from other countries to reach the $25 billion public investment target left a sense that some action was missing from the main stage. But to truly grasp the vibe of this year’s Climate Week, you had to look beyond the spotlight and into the crowd, where handshakes mattered more than headlines. This year was all about rolling up sleeves and partnering to implement what’s already on the table, making sure COP30 moves from rulebook discussions to real action on the ground. 📢 Nature4Climate’s official wrap-up is now live, featuring major nature announcements. Plus, check out our special edition weekly brief for more nature-related actions and insights into how participants are tackling challenges around nature-based solutions. #CWNYC2025 #CWNYC Climate Group #COP30 #NatureFinance #NatureBasedSolutions #ClimateAction
