About us

We’re a business that understands when our customers and people succeed, our communities succeed, and our economy thrives. As part of our purpose, we’re looking at how we can drive change for our communities in enterprise, learning and climate. As one of the leading supporters of UK business, we’re prioritising enterprise as a force of change. We’re focusing on the people and communities who have traditionally faced the highest barriers to entry and figuring out ways to remove these. Learning is also key to our continued growth as a company in an ever changing and increasingly digital world. By setting a dynamic and leading learning culture, our people prosper, and our customers are given the tools to continue to improve their financial capability and confidence. One of the biggest challenges we all face in our future is climate change. That’s why we’ve put it right at the core of our purpose. We want to champion climate solutions with financing and entrepreneurial support, fully embed climate into our culture and decision making, and be climate positive by 2025. We’re committed to using our purpose to break down barriers, drive change and ultimately create a great place to work.

  • We’re incredibly proud to be recognised at the 2025 UK Social Mobility Awards, where we won Network of the Year. Our representatives at the ceremony included Sam Bowerman, People Director and Executive Sponsor for the social mobility workstream. The award recognises the work we’ve done to make addressing social mobility a key part of how we address inclusion, with firm initiatives such as reciprocal mentoring, and a data driven approach. • Today we welcomed over 250 leaders, investors and innovators from across the globe at our Edinburgh HQ for #ScotlandsGlobalInvestmentSummit. We heard from business leaders, policymakers and senior Ministers from both the UK and Scottish Governments, on the huge opportunity to attract new investment and build on Scotland’s economic strengths. Throughout the day panelists highlighted sectors such as life sciences, renewables, tech and financial and professional services as key growth areas for the nation. We have a pivotal role to play in helping to attract investment into Scotland. We’re at the heart of the business ecosystem – banking 1 in 3 Scottish businesses through the Royal Bank of Scotland, backing their growth ambitions and helping them to succeed. Thank you to all attendees and speakers for their valuable contribution. Today, as we host over 250 businesses and Ministers from UK and Scottish Governments at #ScotlandsGlobalInvestmentSummit, we’re announcing our plans to launch IP-backed lending in Scotland to help fuel growth and innovation for Scottish businesses. IP-backed lending aims to help high-growth businesses to access funding against the value of their intellectual property, instead of traditional physical assets. Commenting on the plans, Judith Cruickshank, our Scotland Board Chair, said: “This new loan demonstrates how we are supporting innovation and businesses who are seeking investment at home and abroad, whatever stage they are at in their lifecycle.” The announcement has been welcomed by the Deputy First Minister and the Scottish Secretary: “It is welcome and exciting to see the Royal Bank of Scotland’s plans for an IP-backed loan and I look forward to it providing invaluable support to help kick-start the country’s greatest ideas and business innovation.” - Deputy First Minister Kate Forbes. “Enabling Scottish businesses to leverage their intellectual property as collateral can remove the traditional barriers to finance which have held back some of our most innovative companies. This new funding source could help these IP-rich businesses scale up and compete on the global stage.” - Scottish Secretary Douglas Alexander.
