🚀 It’s World Space Week From 4 - 10 October 2025 Declared by the UN General Assembly in 1999, World Space Week 2025 is set to educate, inspire and connect the global community, focusing on humanity’s strides in developing sustainable living solutions for space. This year’s theme is ‘Living in Space’ with lots of educational workshops and interactive sessions to panel discussions and collaborative projects planned across the UK, all of the activities are aimed at fostering innovative environmental solutions. 🌍Ulster Museum have ‘Space Week in the Discovery Centre’ with lots of creative activities. 🔭 Visit Armagh Observatory & Planetarium for their Night Sky Dome show and explore the autumn sky in the 360° theatre. Space technology is being used to tackle the blue-green algae in Lough Neagh 🛰️   This week NI SPACE, alongside the UK Space Agency and the Department of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs (DAERA), launched the second phase of a Small Business Research Initiative (SBRI), with £800,000 awarded to further develop satellite and sensing technologies for monitoring blue-green algae in Lough Neagh.    Two projects will now progress: 🔹 Plastic-i (BLOOMCAST-NI) Creating a forecasting and decision-support platform using satellite imagery, drone data and environmental drivers. 🔹 Newcastle University (ALGAE-Watch) Advancing low-cost sensors and multi-modal earth observation analytics for earlier detection and warning.   This programme builds on Phase One and aims to deliver real-world tools to detect, predict and monitor algae blooms, supporting the Lough Neagh Action Plan and strengthening efforts to protect Northern Ireland’s environment.
