Delivering a fairer, greener future for the North of England.

About us

We distribute gas to homes and businesses across the north of England, an area covering the North East, northern Cumbria and most of Yorkshire. Our network comprises of 37,000km of gas pipes, that’s enough to travel from the north of England to Sydney, Australia, and back again. We do not own the gas; we transport it on behalf of the companies who do, delivering it to users 24 hours every day. We are responsible for maintaining the region's gas supply network and also act as the area's gas emergency response provider. If you smell gas or are worried about gas safety, you can call 0800 111 999 at any time, day or night every day of the year.

  • Our customer satisfaction score demonstrates sustained and continual improvement. We’re proud to say that our overall customer satisfaction score is 9.3 out of 10 – and during this period, we’ve also expanded our customer support. We’ve provided thousands of free CO alarms to vulnerable customers – protecting them against the odourless, silent threat of Carbon Monoxide. Our Community Partnering Fund has boosted grassroots community groups who help our customers – and the Customer Support Fund provides a further £150k to customers who may be unable to access other support. This is all alongside our Vulnerability and Carbon Monoxide Allowance which addresses the specific needs of people by providing targeted support. I spent today at the Northern Gas Networks Stakeholder Workshop representing Cannon Business Management Limited , where the following subjects were presented and discussed by industry peers: -GD2 Performance and GD3 commitments -Customer Performance -Key Risk Areas of the Future - Repex, asset resilience, workforce resilience, cyber resilience, safety and reliability. -Decarbonisation - what do we do now, key changes and risk areas for the future. What was clear was that the UK Gas Industry is one that is growing - with major investment committed for the next RIIO period. BioMethane is clearly going to play a big part in the future of the Industry. Greg Dodd Mark Horsley Kirsten Wood Heather Sheffield Neil Whalley Laura Ratcliffe Keith Owen - CEng FIGEM MIET Food for thought for Cannon Business Management Limited and how we can help support this period of significant Industry change. Also great to meet with Jon Todd Kevin Brouard Katie Wynd Ellie Glyn-Smith Lee Fenton and others.

  • You’ll see our vans and colleagues when you’re out and about – but have you ever wondered what we’re working on? As the region’s gas network operator, safety is paramount in everything we do. Keeping our customers and colleagues safe and sound is our overriding priority, and we’re constantly investing in our network to make it less prone to leaks. A huge project for us is our programme where we’re replacing hundreds of kilometres of ageing, metallic pipes with new, more durable plastic pipes – keeping homes and businesses in the North of England safe, warm and connected. You might also see us when we’re responding to gas escapes – we’re very proud of our industry-leading record of attending 99.9% of uncontrolled gas escapes within 1 hour. A Northern Gas Networks sponsored Green Gas Taskforce report was launched today at the REA's #greengasday in Birmingham. The Taskforce and its partners were delighted to announce the full findings from the report conducted by Low Carbon Truck Consultancy on the role of biomethane in decarbonising and reducing costs in HGV transportation. The results of this analysis showed that green gas can decarbonise up to 80,000 vehicles by 2050 (50% of the 6x2 44 Tonne HGV market) while reducing emissions by at least 83% compared to diesel and offer lower cost of ownership than diesel vehicles, with a payback period of three years. The report makes clear that these levels of ambition can only be achieved with pragmatic regulatory support and long-term certainty, including reforms to fuel duty, CO2 regulation and the RTFO mechanism. Keith Owen - CEng FIGEM MIET, Head of Energy Futures at NGN said: “Biomethane is a proven technology which represents one of the fastest opportunities to reduce the carbon intensity of the HGV sector whilst reducing costs for businesses. We are committed to working to deliver with the Green Gas Taskforce and its partners in order to deliver an increase in biomethane across our NGN region.” Charles McAllister, Director at the Green Gas Taskforce said: “Greater use of biomethane in HGVs is a zero regrets solution that delivers lower costs for operators and emissions savings of at least 83%. Critically, the world class gas grid in GB can be used to meet the high energy demands of the HGV sector with the biomethane truck refuelling network growing every year. The Taskforce and its partners call on the Department for Transport (DfT), United Kingdom to prioritise the uptake of biomethane in HGVs as a cost effective and readily deployable solution for a hard to decarbonise sector”. • 📣 Save the date! You're invited to our annual Stakeholder Conference this October. Our Stakeholder Conference is a prime opportunity to seek feedback on our work delivering the commitments we've made in our GD2 Business Plan. We're also looking to discuss our upcoming commitments we want to achieve in our GD3 Business Plan, set to begin next year. In June this year, after reviewing our GD3 Business Plan and those of our peers, we received our regulator’s ‘Draft Determination’. This encourages us to continue to deliver outstanding service at an efficient cost to consumers. It's vital we engage and look for ways to increase collaboration with all of our stakeholders. Your feedback will genuinely shape how we implement our Business Plan in the coming years, so we hope you're able to join us! 📆 Thursday 16 October 🕒 10am-2pm (lunch provided) 📍 Online & our Leeds Offices For more information and to book your spot, tap on the link below 👇 https://lnkd.in/eysw6ZQj
