How do you build a fault-tolerant quantum computer? Use photons and #optical #nonlinearities. ⚛️ #Photons are fast, robust to noise, and naturally networkable through optical fiber—making them an ideal foundation for scalable quantum systems. The challenge is efficiency: generating and entangling photons typically requires vast resources. In our latest research paper authored by Maike Ostmann, Josh Nunn and Alex Jones, we show how introducing #optical #nonlinearities into a photonic architecture can dramatically reduce system footprint and improve resilience to photon loss.
