A global movement of people who won't live with poverty.
About us
Oxfam is a vibrant global movement of dedicated people fighting poverty - together. Oxfam fights poverty in three ways: Campaigning, Development and Emergency Response. Campaigning for change: Poverty isn’t just about lack of resources. In a wealthy world it’s about bad decisions made by powerful people. Oxfam campaigns hard, putting pressure on leaders for real lasting change. Development work: Poor people can take control, solve their own problems, and rely on themselves – with the right support. Fighting poverty, we fund long-term work worldwide. Emergency response: People need help in an emergency – fast. We save lives, swiftly delivering aid, support and protection; and we help people prepare for future crises. Oxfam also has around 670 shops in the UK and an online shop selling over 100,000 volunteer-listed second-hand clothes, books, music and collectables, plus Fairtrade and ethical gifts: http://www.oxfam.org.uk/shop Interested in working for Oxfam? It was a real pleasure speaking today at the Charity Finance Summit about Oxfam’s Women’s Rights Fund (WRF); one of the most inspiring shifts in how we think about aid and partnership in the current moment. For decades, traditional models have often limited the potential of brilliant local organisations and ones often led by women leaders. The Women’s Rights Fund is changing that, offering flexible, multi-year funding and genuine trust-based partnerships that allow grassroots leaders to decide what their communities need most. In just three years, our partners have achieved extraordinary results, they have trebled the number of people they serve and collectively raised over US$2.1 million, more than doubling their annual income. We still have much to learn as we continue to embed this new way of working, but we couldn’t be prouder of what’s already been achieved. The Women's Rights Fund raises the bar in what could be achieved by thinking differently. I am profoundly grateful to the incredible Oxfam team who make this possible. A special thank you to Beatriz Guimaraes, Ragda Daboub, Tarek Alyazji and Mona Mehta (and everyone else behind the scenes) who brought vision, dedication, and heart to this work. Our shared commitment to shifting power and supporting grassroots leadership is what gives this fund its strength. Tarek pictured here joined us from Gaza, alongside Ragda who is based in Ramallah. They spoke about what they learned from running the Women's Rights Fund as a development effort, and how they were able to quickly shift to a humanitarian response. Huge thanks Tristan Blythe for chairing and everyone who joined the session today and to the remarkable women and organisations leading the change across Kenya, Lebanon, Nepal, and the Occupied Palestinian Territory.🌍💚 More details about our WRF here: https://lnkd.in/eHG7RZEW Civil Society Media Ltd People's Postcode Lottery

A ceasefire has finally been agreed in Gaza. People have lost loved ones, homes, businesses and access to the basic necessities they need to survive. Deaths from starvation continue to rise. The humanitarian need is catastrophic. Our local teams, partners and DEC member charities are preparing to restart all operations as soon as it’s possible to do so. Please donate now 👉 bit.ly/4qb0JP9

CAN-UK and more than 45 charities, campaigns and trade unions have called today for the UK to champion an ambitious outcome on just transition at COP30. We are calling for a Belém Action Mechanism #BAM to be agreed at COP30 to embed fairness and a focus on better lives for everyone into climate action at home and overseas. The UNFCCC’s Just Transition Work Programme offers a vital route to make the vision of fair, rights-based global climate action real, and COP30 in Belém presents a unique opportunity to move beyond negotiations and rhetoric to deliver a concrete outcome that will: * Advance international co-operation by providing the technical and financial support necessary for countries and communities to undertake ambitious climate action in line with science. * Guarantee meaningful participation of workers, communities, Indigenous Peoples, women, youth and other affected groups. The people most affected must be at the heart of climate action to deliver fair outcomes and better lives. * Make climate action fair by protecting people’s rights Read our letter here: https://lnkd.in/efapiyvF

WATCH: Oxfam’s Policy Lead Bushra Khalidi joined Christiane Amanpour on CNN to discuss the Gaza ceasefire, humanitarian access, and what must happen next. #GazaCeasefire #Gaza

A ceasefire in Gaza is desperately needed, but it must be the start of real change. Humanitarian access must be full, unrestricted, and immediate. It must end Israel’s unlawful occupation and blockade. It must be focused on restoring Palestinian rights and rebuilding lives. The world must act to ensure this ceasefire holds and leads to lasting peace.

“If I must die” is a moving and powerful poem by Palestinian poet, writer, and professor Dr. Refaat Alareer, who was killed by an Israeli airstrike in Gaza in December 2023. Since his death, as the war has spiralled into a humanitarian catastrophe with genocide, ethnic cleansing and famine imposing a deep suffering on the people of Gaza, the poem has resonated around the world - translated into dozens of languages and shared widely as a tribute to his life, to his words, to the deaths of over 66,000 Palestinians, lost in the struggle to survive under siege and bombardment. This reading features humanitarian workers from Oxfam and partners in Gaza and the West Bank, with the opening and closing lines spoken by a colleague who was once taught by Dr. Alareer.
