The 10th P2P Financial Systems International Workshop (P2PFISY 2024) will take place in Dubai on the 16th and 17th of October in collaboration with the Virtual Asset Regulatory Authority (VARA). The focus for 2024 includes; Stablecoins & Security Tokens, Real-World Asset Tokenization, Central Bank Digital Currencies (CBDC), Sustainable Finance, ESG Integration, Consumer Protection in the face of Generative AI, and Financial Inclusion. This premier international event will convene global industry leaders, regulators, and academics to explore the future of finance and the pivotal role of decentralized technologies.

My first time and experience in Dubai ✅ I had a great few days in the UAE around the P2P Financial Systems International Workshop. At the conferenced organized by the DLT Science Foundation and the Virtual Assets Regulatory Authority [VARA], I participated in a panel discussing stablecoins and security tokens alongside esteemed colleagues Peter Goodrich, Marco Di Maggio, Dimitrios Psarrakis, Vineet Budki, and Soham Jethani-Panchamiya. As if we had known about the bridge acquisition by Stripe, we predicted a significant influx of stablecoins into payments over the next 12 months, particularly in consumer payments and remittances. During the conference and my time in the UAE, I had the chance to meet with entrepreneurs, investors and regulatory authorities. It's truly a fascinating place to explore. Here are a few observations that stood out to me: - An incredibly young population - I barely encountered anyone over 60/70 during my stay. - An extremely business-oriented, pragmatic and innovation-friendly culture. - A genuine optimism about the future and an eagerness to actively shape it A little of that forward-thinking mindset could do wonders for our "old world" back in Europe too!
