We couldn’t possibly go to Vinitaly and come back without striking up a partnership with a producer from the iconic region of Piedmont. Roger Strange, Alex Johnson, and Jon Cellier 🍷 bravely powered through a lineup of Barolos and Barbarescos. Their verdict after just a few hours of tasting? “I can’t move my jaws anymore; these tannins!” All that suffering (was it really, though?) paid off, because it led us straight to Pietro Rinaldi and their remarkable wines. A few month back we went to Vinitaly International with Roger Strange and Alex Johnson. I know, you all probably think we had a jolly there, but it wasn’t. We worked hard, travelled the Italian way (squeeeeeze), tasted a lot of wine, talked prices and strategies… then eventually managed to fit in a bit of good, easy time in between. Very proud and excited to announce that Perfect Cellar has just added its first German agency! 🇩🇪 The data shows that people are looking for lower ABV and more “purity of fruit” (basically: less oak, lees, or other winemaking interventions). Where else but Germany can you find this style of wine? Weingut Hees is based in the Nahe region. This area is best known for its fragmented microclimates and diverse soils - in non-nerd terms, it’s a small region packed with lots of different Riesling styles and expressions. Some big names from the Nahe, with a well-established global presence, are Dönnhoff and Schäfer-Fröhlich. Watch this space though, Weingut Hees is next, believe me!
