Our winning project at the Shawfair Energy Centre represents a major step forward in sustainable commissioning — delivering one of the UK’s first fully chemical-free district heating networks. By integrating eleXion electrolysis technology with resin filtration, our team achieved full BSRIA BG29 compliance without the use of chemical additives. This innovative approach eliminated the need for chemical storage and disposal, reduced maintenance requirements, and improved long-term system performance — all while protecting the environment. Project highlights: 💧 Avoided the need to flush 5.5 million litres of chemically treated water 🌿 Achieved full compliance with BSRIA BG29 using a chemical-free method ⚙️ Improved heat transfer and system efficiency through cleaner water 🌎 Delivered zero hazardous discharge and reduced CO₂ emissions 🔁 Supported long-term sustainability and climate resilience goals This award celebrates the dedication and technical expertise of our team — and our commitment to driving innovation and sustainability across the building services industry. As Greg has eluded we are pushing to change our processes to make a positive environmental impact. How are we doing this? Water treatment with NO* WASTE. We have trialled this on multiple projects from the UNESCO World Heritage Site of St. Kilda to the recently completed Shawfair District Heating, with FES Group, where we have saved over 2 MILLION litres of waste water 💧 from being put to drain. On Shawfair we've made this saving by cleaning through filtration as well as conditioning the water via eleXion electrochemical water treatment equipment. This means that in addition to not wasting water we have used no chemicals. In a world 🌍 where water scarcity is becoming more common let's protect our future.
