About us
Pact is a pioneering national charity that supports prisoners, people with convictions, and their children and families. We provide caring and life changing services at every stage of the criminal justice process: in court, in prison, on release, and in the community. Pact’s vision is of a society in which justice is understood as a process of restoration and healing, in which prisons are used sparingly and as places of learning and rehabilitation, and in which the innate dignity and worth of every human being is valued. We work for the common good of Society, taking a public health-based approach. We work at the intersection of criminal justice, child and family welfare, mental health, wellbeing provision and health & social care. Our volunteers and staff can be found in courts, prisons, probation services, and in communities across England & Wales. We are a diverse, inclusive, modern, and collaborative charity. We build effective partnerships and sustainable solutions based on our well-established understanding of the systems in which we work, and on our historic values and ethos developed through our 120+ years of service delivery.

Not every child visits a loved one in prison. Sometimes it's too upsetting. Sometimes, to protect the child, contact isn't allowed. And sometimes, people in prison choose to shield their families from anxiety and pain. But when visits are possible and families want to stay connected, we're here to help. Last year, we supported over 110,000 visits for children and young people. We create welcoming, child-friendly spaces where children can feel safe, happy and cared for – like this new and improved play area at HMP Whatton. 👨👩👧👦 Supporting prison visits helps build stronger families and reduce reoffending.💙 #StrongerFamilies #ReducingReoffending #PrisonersFamilies

Are you working with a young person aged 16-19 who has experienced the imprisonment of a parent? Pact is recruiting Youth Ambassadors — a flexible, paid opportunity for young people with lived experience to share their voice, shape services, and influence real change. We want to listen, learn, and act based on what young people tell us matters most, ensuring future young people receive the support they need. If you support young people who may be interested, please share this opportunity or get in touch to find out more. 🔗 link below.

Thanks to the incredible generosity of our donors, foundations and trusts, we’re able to offer emergency grants to people impacted by imprisonment. 📊 Last year alone, we provided £116,597 to help with essentials such as: 🛒 Groceries | 👕 Clothing | 🧴 Toiletries | 🔌 Appliances | 📱 Phones (vital for probation contact and benefit claims) Since 2020, demand has risen 43%! 📖 Read how an emergency welfare grant helped Sam and Sophia navigate the challenges of imprisonment and work toward a fresh start (link below). #FreshStart #StrongerFamilies #ReducingReoffending
