📢 "With the current pressures across the criminal justice system, continuing to deal with low-level, vulnerable offenders in the same way makes little operational sense. It wastes officer time, clogs up courts, and fails to make communities safer." Revolving Doors Chief Executive Pavan Dhaliwal and Police & Crime Commissioner for Merseyside Emily Spurrell have written for Policing Insight about the need for a national police diversion strategy. There has been a 35% decline in the use of Out of Court Diversions (OOCDs) since 2015, representing valuable missed opportunities to offer compassionate, considered early interventions for people trapped in the revolving door - outcomes which prioritise long-term diversion away from the justice system, not the entrenchment of cycles of punishment. With Lord Justice Leveson recently highlighting the effectiveness of Out of Court Diversions in his Independent Review of the Criminal Courts, we're making the case for a national diversion strategy, rooted in Leveson’s principles, to ease pressure on the courts, free up police time, improve public safety and transform lives. 🚨 Are you a racially minoritised person with lived experience of imprisonment? The Zahid Mubarek Trust are holding a national conference 'Race in prisons: learning from the past, shaping the future' on the 28th October in London to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the racist murder of Zahid Mubarek in HM YOI Feltham, perpetrated by his cellmate. The conference will serve as a national call to action to urgently address the continuing racial injustice in our prison system and wider criminal justice system. Featuring keynote speeches from people such as Lord Timpson OBE, Minister for Prisons and Probation, several interactive workshops will take place throughout the day for the creation of a co-produced way forward to achieve racial justice within the system. Find out more and register here ➡️ https://lnkd.in/gi6D4E5p
There's just a month and a half to go until the Zahid Mubarek Trust's national conference 'Race in prisons: learning from the past, shaping the future', held in London on the 28th October. 25 years on since 19-year old Zahid Mubarek was murdered by his racist cellmate in HM YOI Feltham, only a day before he was due to be released, the necessity for this conference is more urgent than ever: racial disparities persist in our criminal justice system despite endless reviews, reports, and commitments, and the far right are more emboldened than ever to express racist sentiments. The day will feature a whole host of interactive workshops tailored for policy professionals, researchers and students, people with lived experience of imprisonment and their families, and people who work in prisons. We'll interrogate topics like what failing to implement the recommendations of the Lammy Review has cost us, why there are gaps in research into prisons and race, how to centre families' voices in exposing racial injustices in prisons, and what anti-racist leadership looks like in practice. The goal of the day will be to create a shared manifesto and wider movement for change which can hold both ourselves and decision-makers accountable when challenging systemic racism. The event is open to anyone working in and around or with an interest in the criminal justice system, and we particularly encourage people with lived experience of imprisonment and their families to attend. Super excited that this programme has kicked off Connor L.! I have been a long-time admirer of all five of these organisations - Revolving Doors, Clean Break Theatre Company, 3Pillars Project, Unlock - for people with criminal records and The Big House Theatre Company, so it is fantastic to collaborate with them all. Massive shoutout to Jack McMahon and Richard Hughes at PA Consulting, whose support has made this project possible! #EssentialSkills #CriminalJustice

Training [1/3] of the Criminal Justice Impact Academy Cohort achieved this afternoon ✅ This first session was all about connection: meeting the cohort, exploring the #UniversalFramework and beginning to shape Action Plans for embedding the essential skills into their provision. This cohort has been made possible thanks to the generous support of The PA Foundation (PA Consulting), whose funding is enabling leaders across the criminal justice sector to collaborate and strengthen impact in their outreach. A huge thank you to our Skills Leaders today for laying the foundations for exciting things ahead! • 3Pillars Project/Eloise Falconer & Joseph Maksymiw, • The Big House Theatre Company/Molly Rutherford, • Unlock - for people with criminal records/Debbie Sadler • Revolving Doors/Natalia Thomas - Jikiemi • Clean Break Theatre Company/Tracey Anderson Next steps: 1:1 Planning Meetings, where we’ll deep dive into each Skills Leader’s programme plans and set the course for the coming months. #SkillsBuilder #ImpactAcademy #CriminalJustice #EssentialSkills #Leadership #Collaboration Skills Builder UK

This project transformed how I will approach data and AI enabled public services. If you work in this field - read our report, and watch our video! Link below👇 Co-producing solutions with the people who use services, whose data is being processed, and about whom decisions are being made is not only morally right but will help you design better, fairer solutions. Can’t recommended working with the NECG, Revolving Doors, and their members highly enough. We had so much fun working together on this.
You've likely heard the term "co-production" gaining traction in discussions about public service reform, but what does it look like in practice? Our latest report, developed in partnership with the National Expert Citizens Group, explores the transformative power of co-production and its vital role in creating equitable, accessible, and impactful public services. #CoDesign #LivedExperience #PublicServiceInnovation #WithNotFor #TrustMatters #CoProduction #BetterOutcomes #PublicServiceDesign #LivedExperience #DesignForEquity #AIandEquity Big thank you to Ed Roddis Paul McCarthy-Christofides Emma Southgate, the members of the NECG and the team at THE REVOLVING DOORS AGENCY for making this work such a joy 💛

A great piece of work which I was involved with and I am very proud of . The Deloitte team and the NECG lived experience members worked in a truly coproduced way on this piece of work, with no hierarchies or power differentials in sight. It was a pleasure and honour to be involved. I hope there is much more of this work to come, so the NECG and other lived experience groups can use their lived experience to make services truly work for everyone.

I so enjoyed being involved in this project. It was a real pleasure to watch it develop from an already fascinating and urgent initial premise about the potential of AI, into a piece of work which provoked a really meaningful examination of how we can challenge barriers and faultlines to develop public services that put people first. People experiencing multiple disadvantage are, by definition, those who rely on services the most - and who rely on them to work well, and treat them fairly. They therefore know these services inside out, making them ideally placed to advise as to how they can practically and philosophically change to ensure that users are supported to have their needs met and build fulfilled, happy and healthy lives in their communities. AI is a tool with great potential, but it's real people that have the answers. Congrats to the lovely guys at Deloitte and - of course - to the experts of the NECG for everything achieved on this project! Real teamwork with great results.

🤝 𝗡𝗼𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘂𝘀, 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘂𝘀. We are very proud to share this groundbreaking piece of work from the National Expert Citizens Group (NECG) and Deloitte, exploring how AI can transform public services for those experiencing multiple disadvantage. Yet, the project expanded far wider than its initial premise. As conversations progressed, our teams from the NECG and Deloitte began to explore more fundamental questions: what does meaningful co-production look like? And what is the potential that lived experience can unlock as we look to transform our public services? The NECG and its members have a clear message: the people who know services best - who know how they work, and how they need to change - are those who use them. Disrupting power structures and silos and co-producing change gives us the best opportunity to ensure that we can build effective, equitable and supportive services for everyone. 💡 𝗪𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗱 𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲? https://lnkd.in/gqEFQpFG
