It was great to bring the RHA Senior Leadership Team together this week for a focused session on how we work and grow as a team. Under the guidance of Sara Burks from Adaptis Limited, we explored how to build on our strengths, challenge ourselves to think differently, and collaborate even more effectively to deliver for our members and colleagues. A really valuable day of reflection, shared learning, and connection - grounded in our values of being relevant, quality-driven, trusted, collaborative, supportive, and knowledgeable. #TeamRHA #Leadership #Collaboration #RoadHaulage #Values Abby Harnwell Richard James Smith Stephen Hards Jo Dawson-Gerrard David Boot, Chart.PR Red Brennan Phil Snowden Clare Murphy

GB-NI trade solutions exist. It’s time for decision-makers to act. We stand ready to work collaboratively to find a way forward. 👇
Last week's House of Lords Northern Ireland Scrutiny Committee report confirmed what the Road Haulage Association (RHA) and our members have been experiencing daily: the complexity of the various systems and regulations under the Windsor Framework makes it incredibly difficult for businesses to navigate. The 107-page Lords report pulls no punches. "The Trader Support Service is not providing a good quality of service." Our industry has seen this first-hand. There has also been poor levels of communication with businesses and ICS2's sudden introduction without warning made things worse, not better. Companies need real-time support and up-to-date information. Recent reports have confirmed what we've long said, this isn't happening. Many firms are drowning in paperwork whilst old, basic questions remain unanswered. It's true too that GB-NI freight volumes have dropped, operating costs are rising, and we've seen trade diversions - with some companies making the decision to stop servicing Northern Ireland altogether. For a number of years, we've been saying - move the 'at risk' goods definition to point of sale, when a final destination is known. Goods moving GB to NI and staying in NI wouldn't face customs processes. GB to EU via NI would. Stock held before sale wouldn't need customs requirements. This straightforward and common-sense change would remove most cost and bureaucracy from the vast majority of movements. With over 80 recommendations, the Lords report validates many of our longstanding concerns. Our message to Government is clear: It's essential that matters around the GB-NI supply chain are a priority - right at the top of EU reset talks. The economic consequences of failing to address the issues stretch far beyond one sector. We want to find a way forward and we'll continue to raise these points with Ministers and officials in the months ahead. Current systems aren't working - it's time for practical and sensible solutions.

Our Traffic Commissioner Member Briefings are off to a great start. Last night we were in St Albans, and tonight our teams are in Bridgend, Colchester, and Barnsley - with a full house all round and fantastic feedback. The mock Public Inquiry/ Driver Conduct Hearing, delivered in partnership with the Traffic Commissioners and Backhouse Jones Solicitors, have been particularly well received - giving operators a valuable insight into what can lead to these hearings, how to avoid them, and what to expect if called to one. Here’s the Senior Traffic Commissioner Kevin Rooney supporting #NationalLorryWeek alongside audience attendees Simon Steptoe Webster Miller, Jo-Anne and Jonathan Martin- JJ Martin Transport and Jodi Bolton Smith and George Bolton- BoltonBros Ltd.
