  • 🛂 EU Entry/Exit System (EES) and the 90/180 rule 👇 We’re very clear that EES implementation will mean stricter enforcement of the 90/180 rules which is going to be a big challenge for many hauliers and coach operators on international work.  We believe it will put jobs and businesses at risk – That's why we’re calling for a professional driver’s exemption for those who move people or goods between the UK and EU on a return journey.  Support our campaign for by downloading the letter [link below] and sending it to your local MP. 🔗 https://obi41.nl/2p97kmt7 More information on EES can be found on our website here: https://obi41.nl/yx99th4y

  • IMF projections offer a mixed-bag picture of UK economic wellbeing... What does it all mean for #Budget2025? Our MD, Richard James Smith sets out why our sector is a key facilitator and the measures we urge the Chancellor to announce to boost growth... 👇

The latest International Monetary Fund (IMF) forecast makes interesting reading for the Chancellor ahead of her crunch Budget next month. The international finance institution’s six-monthly sitrep offers a nuanced assessment which commentators will interpret in different ways. On one hand the IMF predicts that in 2025 the UK is set to become the second fastest-growing G7 economy after the US. Yet on the other hand they warn that UK inflation is set to surge to the highest in that group in 2025 and 2026. Interestingly, the US’ tariffs which were tipped to cause seismic, global shockwaves have been more of a destabilising ripple – at least for the UK, which will be a relief to Rachel Reeves as the tension ratchets up in the weeks ahead. Yet that assessment could be a double-edged sword for the Chancellor if the narrative catches on that White House-driven economic turbulence has cast a lighter shadow over the UK’s economic wellbeing than many expected. It really is a nuanced picture, and what this all means for her Budget remains to be seen. Likewise, tomorrow’s ONS GDP figures which have painted a mixed, but generally drab backdrop so far this year. But every household and business will be bracing itself for spending cuts and tax rises come 26 November. It's our job to make the clear case that the haulage, coach and van sectors are key growth enablers given their socio-economic ubiquity. After all, most goods we consume are transported by lorry and/or van, and coaches play an unsung but significant role moving people economically and sustainably. But with the transport sector – and others adjacent – grappling with economy-stifling costs the Government must step in and make the bold choices that will pay dividends in the years ahead. Continuing the long-standing fuel duty freeze is key; we urge the Chancellor to resist the temptation to generate quick revenue from the pumps against the longer-term detriment this would set in motion. We also call for other fuel-related measures to reduce costs including a 15 pence-per-litre essential user rebate for commercial vehicles and an emissions-linked rebate to incentivise uptake of cleaner fuels. Other easements like full expensing for leased assets would benefit SMEs as would freezing of VED and the HGV Levy. These are seemingly small gestures in the grand scheme of things – but significant-enough measures that would ease cost pressures on our sector and empower us to support the Government’s mission to deliver economic growth. #Budget2025

"The future of fleets isn't about one single solution. It's about an array of different fuel types... all working together. The road ahead will be powered by a diverse network of fuelling options.” – Paul Holland, MD of UK Fleet at Corpay, including UK brand, The Fuelcard Company. This powerful message came out of the recent RHA Future Forum, where industry leaders met to discuss the complex journey to sustainable haulage. It's not just an environmental issue - it's an economic, operational and policy one. Our new report dives into the forum's key takeaways: ⭐ Mindset shift: move beyond a single-fuel focus and embrace blended fleets. ⭐ Collaboration: industry-wide partnership is essential to solve infrastructure and policy hurdles. ⭐ Technology: tools like fuel cards are crucial for paying for, tracking, and gaining insights from a multi-fuel operation. A successful future requires us to work smarter, together. • 🚧⚠️ Why is October peak season for bridge strikes? ⚠️🚧 According to Network Rail, an average of five bridge strikes occur every day, but that number almost doubles in October. The combination of poor light, challenging weather, increased delivery pressures ahead of the Christmas season, and the use of temporary or seasonal drivers creates a perfect storm for risk. Read Director of Training, Brian Kenny LLB, CMILT's latest blog on how Operators and Drivers can have an influence, and be part of the solution: 🔗 https://obi41.nl/4ybu9b3h #DestinationZero #BridgeStrikes #RoadSafety #Logistics #TransportTraining #FleetSafety #RHA #ScottishTransport #RTX2025 #DriverAwareness
