About us

Save the Children Save the Children is the world's leading independent organisation for children. We work in around 120 countries. Our vision is to live in a world in which every child attains the right to survival, protection, development and participation. Last year Save the Children's programmes and campaigns reached more than 55 million children directly around the world, through our and our partners' work. We work to inspire breakthroughs in the way the world treats children and to achieve immediate and lasting change in their lives. Across all of our work, we pursue several core values: accountability, ambition, collaboration, creativity and integrity.

Updates

  • 🚨 At least 17 children were killed and 22 injured in El Fasher, Sudan during a particularly violent October, as the city marks 18 months under siege. All the reported child deaths took place in a series of attacks on the Dar al-Arqam Displacement Centre on 11 October, when nine girls and eight boys — including a newborn just seven days old — were killed. About 130,000 children remain trapped, facing hunger, disease, and relentless violence. 👉 Our teams are scaling up health and nutrition services across North Darfur and Jabal Marra, reaching over 224,000 displaced people despite ongoing attacks and limited aid access. “No child should ever be killed or injured in conflict. The deliberate or reckless harm of children, or attacks on the places where they should be safe, is indefensible,” Mohamed Abdiladif, Save the Children's Country Director in Sudan. 🗣️ We will continue to stand with the children of #Sudan. All parties must protect children and uphold international humanitarian law — it is a duty owed to every child.

  • Did you know that conflict is the biggest driver of hunger? 70% of the world's hungry people are living in areas afflicted by war and violence. From Syria to the Sahel, years of conflict have left children facing starvation. Conflict has a devastating impact on people’s ability to grow or buy food: ➡️ It forces families from their homes. ➡️ It plunges societies and economies into turmoil. ➡️ It destroys farmland and infrastructure. ➡️ It cuts communities off from humanitarian aid when they need it most. ➡️ Sometimes starvation is even used as a deliberate weapon of warfare. Millions of children’s lives and futures are hanging in the balance. But hunger is not a lost cause. We’re working with families around the world to respond to hunger and malnutrition. But we can't do it alone. Donate now👉 https://bit.ly/42RPX6r

  • While the pause in hostilities in Gaza is a crucial respite for children, it is not enough. The war has inflicted unprecedented and potentially irreversible mental and physical harm on Palestinian children, with consequences that could span generations to come. For the more than 20,000 children who lost their lives, it’s too late, but for nearly a million other children it’s a chance to begin the long road towards recovery. Against unimaginable odds, the Save the Children team has been working tirelessly to respond to the devastating scale of humanitarian needs in Gaza: ➡️ Since the war began, we have provided lifesaving support and aid to 1.6 million people in Gaza, over half of whom are children. ➡️ We are continuing to deliver lifesaving health, nutrition, child protection, education, water and sanitation, and livelihoods support to families in Deir al-Balah and Khan Younis. While we continue to push for a definitive ceasefire, improved humanitarian access, and better protections for children, we are doing everything we can to provide essential support to families in need. And we stand ready to scale-up this support further as soon as we are able to safely.

  • As wars intensify, the climate crisis worsens, and funding for life-saving nutrition is cut, millions of children are facing starvation and severe malnutrition. Every minute, 35 children are born into hunger. In Kenya, droughts have impacted the crops that 18-months-old Ereng*'s family rely on to survive. Ereng was facing malnutrition and losing weight rapidly. Thanks to support from Community Health Promoter Charles, Ereng has recovered. A special fortified peanut paste helped her gain healthy weight and she is back on track. Like Ereng, millions of children’s lives and futures are hanging in the balance. But hunger is not a lost cause. With enough support, enough political will, and enough urgency- we can save lives. Donate👉 https://bit.ly/4n3NJYQ #WorldFoodDay

  • “The trauma is still there. Every time the ground moves, I get scared again," says 13-year old Jade*, a survivor of the earthquake that struck central Philippines on 30 September. Over 2,200 schools in Cebu were damaged or destroyed in the deadly earthquake. Aftershocks are still rocking the region. Millions of children remain out of school and in need of water, shelter, and safe spaces to learn. ➡️ Save the Children is on the ground, helping kids recover and rebuild. Working with partners, we are distributing food, water, and hygiene kits to families. ➡️ We are also preparing to establish temporary learning spaces so children can continue their education. In any crisis, children are always the most at risk – from the conflicts in Gaza, Ukraine and Sudan to natural disasters like the recent earthquakes in the Philippines or Afghanistan. • Healing isn’t just physical - it’s emotional, too. In Gaza, where the scale of loss is overwhelming, Child Friendly Spaces offer children like 12-year-old Amir* a lifeline. They provide a chance to rediscover joy and rebuild hope. After losing his father and suffering serious injuries, Amir is now walking again, making friends, and smiling. Save the Children stands ready to scale-up our support and deliver life-saving supplies and treatment to children who desperately need it.

  • Today's reports of an impending pause in hostilities gives hope for children and their families in Gaza. Children have had their childhoods shattered after two years of relentless war has left them facing famine, displacement, and violence. This agreement must finally be the turning point. Gaza needs an urgent increase in aid to stop more deaths from starvation, disease and injuries. This is a crucial first step for children’s survival – but only if it is followed by a definitive and lasting ceasefire. Children must be protected.

  • The Children's Emergency Fund means we have funds ready for when disaster strikes and are ready to act. It means we can be there for children, families and communities before, during and long after a crisis. We can stay and help them recover and rebuild. ➡️ In 2024, $73.4 million was allocated from the Children's Emergency Fund, allowing us to respond to crises in 71 countries, helping more than 23.8 million people, including 12.8 million children. Working with local partners, we help communities prepare for the next disaster – because it’s not a matter of if, but when. From responding to conflict or war zones to rebuilding lives after natural disasters, we are there for children when they need us most👉 https://bit.ly/41C4QJj
