We're incredibly proud to be ranked as the most active institutional investor in women-led businesses in the UK, as recognised by J.P. Morgan and Beauhurst in their latest report on women-powered businesses. 🏆💫 This achievement is particularly meaningful to us as it reflects our proactive approach to tackling investment bias. We have developed a scoring system that helps our team make decisions based purely on a company’s merit, ensuring that female-led and other minority-led startups receive the same opportunities as their peers. We believe that by championing diversity, we are not only building a more equitable ecosystem, but also a more successful one for everyone. The top spots in the ranking are held by leading crowdfunding platforms Republic and Crowdcube, a testament to their ability to facilitate funding for high volumes of startups. Huge thanks to everyone who joined us for our portfolio event ‘Runway Realism’ last evening at Home Grown! It was an incredibly insightful evening where we explored critical topics like the need to stay lean and mean, and the importance of understanding your own investment roadmap. Key takeaways also highlighted the need for open communication with investors, balancing hopefulness with realism about financial runways, and tracking early warning signals of distress. A special thank you to our partners Simons Muirhead Burton LLP for their valuable contributions and support in making this event a success, to Home Grown Club for hosting us, and to our brilliant panellists Neal Hodges, Natasha Frangos, and Stephen Page. 🌟

An appearance on Dragons' Den can be a game-changer for a startup, and that was certainly the case for our portfolio company Prsnt. Founders Omid Moallemi and David Parr secured a combined offer from three Dragons, and while the investment didn't proceed, the exposure and credibility they gained from that proved to be a huge success. Following the show, Prsnt saw a huge surge in sales and a 350% increase in new customer acquisitions. The company also secured new contracts and is on track to increase its turnover five-fold this year. And as the founders didn't need to raise the capital in the end, they were able to keep all their equity, which puts them in a strong position for future funding rounds. Is the influx of US venture capital into European AI startups a threat to local players? Our Chief Investment Officer, Joseph Zipfel, addresses this question in a recent Sifted article. He argues that this trend is not a threat, but a positive sign of a maturing ecosystem that presents significant opportunities for local investors. Joseph highlights two key advantages: the chance to unlock liquidity through partial secondary deals, and a competitive edge at the earliest investment stages – since US VCs tend to get involved later, European firms can focus on the initial stages where the most substantial returns are often made.
