Do you have a child, or do you know someone, 10-13 years old who wants to contribute to mental health research? We’re partnering with Imperial College London's Institute of Global Health Innovation to carry out new research into children’s mental health. We’re looking for children aged 10–13 to join a Children’s Advisory Group, helping to guide our researchers and ensure the work stays rooted in what really matters to children. The group will meet three times between November and January 2026. If you’re a parent or guardian of a child in this age range who might be interested in taking part, we’d love to hear from you. Please contact Erin at [email protected] to find out more or ask any questions.

  • “When I was experiencing intrusive suicidal thoughts after the birth of my daughter, I found the idea of speaking out impossible. I felt terrified that once I said it out loud, I’d never be able to take it back. Reaching out to Shout anonymously felt like a much easier first step.” When new mum Leanne texted Shout, she was struggling with postnatal depression and didn’t know how to tell anyone how bad things had become. Knowing she only had to type the word 'Shout' to get the conversation started removed a barrier and allowed her to talk about how she felt. “Speaking to a Shout Volunteer definitely helped reduce the power of my dark thoughts and the hold they had over me,” she says. “Sometimes, just writing the thoughts I was having reduced their power, which helped me carry on for another day.” With encouragement and support, Leanne found ways to manage her thoughts and slowly began to recover. Now, she’s studying to become a mental health nurse and is using her experience to help others.

How can we build up our mental resilience? To mark World Mental Health Day last Friday, we held a webinar in partnership with The Harry Kane Company and Bounce Forward covering this key way we can support our mental health. Our Clinical Director, Sarah Kendrick, and Lucy Bailey BSc(Hons)SocPol, MSc, CEO of Bounce Forward, shared practical insights into how individuals can build resilience, strengthen meaningful relationships, and better support themselves and others. Amy has lived with anxiety and an eating disorder, and she knows how hard it can be to ask for help. “I know how hard it is to pick up the phone and physically speak to somebody when you’re struggling. Sending a text is so much easier.” When Amy had to leave her job for her mental health and was at her lowest, cycling, along with support from people around her, helped her rebuild her mental health. Pedalling up mountains forced her to focus on breathing and showed her she could do hard things, while eating more so she had the energy for big rides helped her overcome worries about food. Earlier this year, she became the first woman to ride the full men’s Tour de France route plus the transfers, raising over £90,000 for Shout and The Mix Charity 🌠💫 Now, we’re so proud to welcome Amy as an ambassador, helping us reach even more people who might be struggling to cope. We're so proud to have such an inspiring person on board! 💜
