It’s a wrap! On October 12th, four dedicated runners from our charity partners- @Berkeley and @mks took on the Royal Parks Half Marathon. Alongside 16,000 other runners, they completed one of London’s most iconic races which took them by historic landmarks on the North and South of the river. Collectively, our runners raised an incredible £1,375 to help someone build a brighter future with St Giles. Shoutout to Sam Garwood MCIOB Msc and Luke Yates who got snapped on the day, and to our other runners Jodie and Dillon. For others who want to Run for Change & Step up for St Giles- we've got lots of exciting challenges coming up --> https://lnkd.in/eV-Y6wYH We’re also open to hearing your own challenge ideas - every step, pedal or limb makes a difference!
About us
St Giles is an award-winning charity using expertise and lived experiences to empower people who are not getting the help they need, held back by poverty, exploited, abused, dealing with mental health problems, caught up in crime or a combination of these issues. We enable people to overcome adversity through peer-based social action. The services we provide for 25,000 people each year cover help for vulnerable young people involved in or at risk of criminal exploitation, services helping adults and young people facing unemployment and poverty, help for vulnerable women and their families, prison and community-based support for people in the criminal justice system and specialist support for adults facing complex barriers. Many of our employees have been in the same circumstances and use their experiences to inspire and support those living through it right now. Being helped by someone who has ‘been there’ is powerful and underpins all of our projects.

🌍 Today is the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty At St Giles, we see that poverty isn’t just about money—it’s about inequality, exclusion, and barriers that hold people back. Rising costs, insecure work, and poor housing push more people into hardship every day. Through our Pantries and community programs, we provide not just food, but support with debt, skills, housing, and mental health—helping people rebuild stability and confidence. Ending poverty isn’t just emergency relief—it requires systemic change, opportunity, and working together to ensure no one is left behind. 🌍 Today is #WorldFoodDay — a reminder that food insecurity isn’t a distant issue. It’s happening here in our communities, every day. At St Giles, our Pantry Network is doing far more than putting food on tables. It’s helping people rebuild stability, dignity and connection. But the need is growing. 📊 Last year, among people referred to our Pantries: 79% had skipped meals 48% had gone a whole day without eating Our Pantries offer fresh, affordable food alongside friendly advice and support, helping people tackle the root causes of poverty. And the results speak for themselves: 💚 80% felt more connected to their community 💰 72% improved their finances 🧠 68% reported better mental health 💪 60% said their physical health improved — one woman even reversed her diabetes Because when people have access to food, support, and someone who cares, change happens. 👉 Find out how we’re tackling poverty and building stronger communities: https://lnkd.in/dk5H2fjP #EndPoverty #FoodSecurity #SocialImpact #CommunitySupport #WorldFoodDay2025 #StGiles

🌍 Tomorrow marks both #WorldHomelessDay and #WorldMentalHealthDay - two issues that are deeply connected, and relevant to the work we do at St Giles. Too often, people experiencing homelessness or mental ill health also face barriers that push them closer to the justice system. At St Giles, we help people in these highly vulnerable situations to find safety, stability, and a sense of purpose — supporting them to rebuild their lives for good. Lived experience is key. Our staff and volunteers have walked the same paths as the people they now help. They bring credibility, empathy, and hope showing that change is not only possible, but achievable. In a time of rising inequality and unheard voices, we believe those most affected must be part of the solution. Their insights and resilience are shaping fairer, more effective responses to some of society’s toughest challenges. 👉 Learn more about our work and impact: 🔗 https://lnkd.in/dDwGTwfZ

Our colleague Junior Smart is featured in the latest edition of Fighting Knife Crime London. In this piece, he emphasises that knife crime is a symptom of deeper societal issues such as poverty, trauma, exploitation, and lack of safety, highlighting how young people often carry knives out of fear rather than aggression, and how exploiters take advantage of vulnerable families and communities. Junior advocates for long-term, year-round solutions to address the root causes of knife crime, underscoring the importance of lived experience in building trust and creating meaningful change. Junior calls for systemic change, urging investment in prevention, collaboration, and consistent support for young people, families, and communities. He stresses that knife crime is preventable with time, trust, and belief in young people's potential, moving beyond crisis management and investing in hope and long-term solutions. Tackling Knife Crime: Understanding the ‘Why’ Behind the Headlines There are encouraging signs that knife crime is falling in parts of the UK but this progress is not being felt evenly across all regions. A new report by think tank Equi highlights the role of grassroots Muslim-led organisations and has found these interventions could be saving the taxpayer up to £30 million annually alongside saving lives. In the report’s foreword, our CEO Tracey Burley highlights why enforcement alone isn’t enough. To prevent youth violence, we must understand why it happens and respond with empathy, insight and collaboration. As Tracey notes: “Young people need support that reflects their world and their identity. Cultural competence, lived experience and peer influence are key to changing lives.” The report shines a light on what works from community-led, faith-based interventions to whole-family approaches and cross-sector collaboration. It echoes what we see every day at St Giles: that grassroots solutions, rooted in trust and understanding, are truly transformative. There is hope but also urgency. With the right resources, partnerships and sustained investment, we can prevent more tragedies and give every child the chance of a safe, hopeful future. Tackling Anti-Social Behaviour: Trust, Collaboration, and Lived Experience!!! Yesterday’s ASB Conference brought together voices from policing, housing, youth services, and victim support to explore how we can truly make communities safer. Key takeaways: ✅ Trust is the foundation of community safety. ✅ Neighbourhood policing and local action plans are making a difference. ✅ Multi-agency hubs and data sharing accelerate change. ✅ Lived experience must be central to our approach. ✅ Victim support needs clear pathways, consistent communication, and empathy. ✅ ASB case reviews are underused but powerful tools for change. From reclaiming public spaces to mentoring young people, we heard powerful stories of impact. Thank you to all of the powerful speakers, delegates, and sponsors for your insight and commitment. Let’s keep the momentum going. Together, we can stamp out ASB. #ASBConference #CommunitySafety #LivedExperience #TraumaInformed #YouthVoice #VictimSupport #NeighbourhoodPolicing #StGilesTrust St Giles Jade Hibbert Junior Smart
