Today we're proud to be one of 12 London hospices taking part in Hospice UK's #ThisIsHospiceCare campaign, to raise awareness of the vital difference gifts in Wills make to the care we provide to today’s and future generations of Londoners.💛 Each one of our nurses holds an item that represents what hospice care means to them, from gardening tools and pet therapy, to memory boxes and cake. This week, our Corporate Fundraising team headed to the Coverys London offices to announce our new partnership and share our plans for the year ahead. 💙 Our team said: "During our visit to Coverys London, we learned more about their core values – ones that strongly echo our own commitment to compassion, community and impact. We had the chance to share what matters most to us at St Joseph’s and introduce a host of ways their colleagues can get involved, from volunteering days to fundraising events and The Great East End Quiz. This partnership is even more special as this year marks our 120th anniversary and Coverys' 50th anniversary. As a hospice, we rely heavily on the support of our partners to continue providing specialist care to those who need us most. It's through collaborations like this, built on shared values and genuine commitment, that we’re able to make a lasting impact. We’re excited to get started." Coverys London, thank you for hosting our team and for choosing to support us as the local hospice for East London and the City - we're really looking forward to the year ahead 👏 Coverys, Coverys London #Coverys #CoverysLondon #StJosephsHospice

It’s #DyingMattersWeek! 💙 The theme of this year's campaign is The Culture of Dying Matters. Together we are exploring how different communities and cultures in the UK talk about, and deal with death and dying - and what brings them together. Three of our St Joseph’s Hospice volunteers, Berna, Lawrence and Pauline, have partnered with Hospice UK to create this insightful and moving film 'The Culture of Dying Matters', sharing their personal reflections on the topic. We're thrilled to share that the full length film is now available to watch on our website! Link below 👇 https://lnkd.in/eyjJmgPY A heartfelt thank you to Berna, Lawrence, Pauline, Hospice UK and Tom Edkins for their all of their hard work on this fantastic project! 👏✨ #StJosephsHospice #DyingMatters #HospiceUK

St Joseph's Hospice reposted this
I certainly won’t be recommending my training schedule to anyone but…I did it, I completed a marathon, (the London Marathon 2025!), to raise some much needed funds for St Joseph's Hospice. Sunday was just incredible - the crowds, the volunteers, the scenery, (the bloody heat! 🙄), the inspiring stories but most of all, the overwhelming display of love and support. It was really beautiful to see and a privilege to be part of such a joyful day. All the banners and signs were great, I thoroughly enjoyed reading the tributes and jokes as I bobbed my way around London. One message in particular seemed to keep coming up, and it told me to think of my ‘why’ when things got tough. Well, my ‘why’ was the sharpest, funniest, no nonsense little lady with a booming voice and purple hair. She was petrified of ever being late so instead, would always be an hour early to everything. She was a gifted mathematician who often solved the sums section on Countdown quicker than Carol Vorderman and I used to think she was an absolute rockstar every time she did! She let me and my siblings ring the TV competition numbers during the summer holidays so many times that I genuinely asked her if we had some sort of trust fund situation to look forward to in the future. She loved ironing but only ever wore dresses or skirts (apart from one singular occasion in the 1970’s where she wore trousers to lead a school trip and seemingly decided it wasn’t for her). Mental. She taught swimming lessons but never actually swam herself - I still haven’t quite worked that one out! She was completely obsessed with F1 and somehow always knew all the track gossip before social media did. She was quite partial to an apple pie and a strawberry milkshake from Maccy D’s. She went on an IT course in her 70’s just to learn about the internet and not get ‘left behind’. And that’s not even half of it! She was just so AWESOME!!! The signs were right, thinking of my ‘why’, my Nan, was a tremendous help when my hips started to really play up around mile 19. Thinking of all of her eccentricities, her stories, her cheeky smile, her big laugh, her strength, her love. I suspect that is why I ended up smiling the whole way all around London! For all the runners and supporters, we celebrated individual achievements, recoveries and remembered the incredible shoulders that we stand on. ❤️ St Joseph's Hospice’s cheer sections at miles 13 and 21 provided a much needed boost of energy for myself and its 17 other runners. As for my personal cheer squad (in-person and over the phone), you were amazing and I can’t thank you all enough for getting me around the course, to Nando’s and home - in that order!! Thanks also to everyone who has already kindly donated but to those who still wish to, there is still time: https://lnkd.in/ewtRYFS6
