There has been a lot of coverage recently of the excellent work that The Duchy Of Cornwall has been doing in Newquay at Nansleden. So the whole Stories gang (less Mark Ferguson, boo) headed down there for a good look around. We also squeezed in some fun in the sea, 'KaraoQuay' and quite a bit of laughter. Particular thanks to Sam Kirkness for the tour and hosting us for lunch.

About us
Stories is a socially responsible property developer committed to creating long term sustainable value. We are focused on mixed use developments across the UK that maximise economic, social and environmental impact for all stakeholders. We care about legacy and remain strategically involved for the long term. We believe empathy and transparency are key to successful partnerships. Our Impact Model leverages our founding team and partners’ extensive track record to deliver the right outcomes for the right place. It combines deep, measured engagement with all stakeholders to develop a needs-based strategy that informs thoughtful, human-led design. Through B Corp certification, we hold ourselves accountable to the principle that doing good is good business. -- We founded Stories because we believe in a collective responsibility to leave the world in a better place than we found it and improve people’s lives in the process. Development must go deeper and recognise the value of all stakeholders, not just shareholders; and understand that short-sighted pursuit of returns is self defeating.

We’re proud to share that our co-founder Richard Meier has been appointed as an Independent Non-Executive Director on the Board of Bristol Temple Quarter - one of the most ambitious regeneration projects in the UK. At Stories, we believe long-term, purpose-led landownership can drive transformation that’s both commercially resilient and socially meaningful. Bristol Temple Quarter is a rare opportunity to bring that belief to life on a city-defining scale. “Every day I enjoy working with purpose-led, long-term landowners, so I’m really pleased to be joining the Bristol Temple Quarter Board to do just that,” says Richard. “This is a project I’ve followed for some time - both through our work in Bristol and as a resident of the West of England. It has the potential to reshape the centre of Bristol and set a new benchmark for equitable, ambitious regeneration.” We’re excited to see Richard join fellow iNEDs André Gibbs, Claudette Forbes and David Biggs in supporting the Bristol Temple Quarter team to deliver on this once-in-a-generation opportunity for the city and its communities. #Regeneration #UrbanDevelopment #LongTermStewardship #PurposeLed #PlaceMaking #Bristol

We are absolutely delighted to share that Richard has joined the BTQ LLP Board as non-executive director! Richard had this to say: “Every day I enjoy working with purpose-led, long-term landowners, so joining the Bristol Temple Quarter Board really resonates. It is a project I have followed closely, both in a professional capacity as a development specialist who has worked in Bristol, and as a resident of the West of England. I’m looking forward to getting stuck in and helping the team make the most of this amazing, and essential, opportunity to transform the centre of Bristol.”
After a competitive process where more than 100 people applied, we’re thrilled to announce the appointment of four new non-executive directors to the BTQ LLP Board. Our new directors will bring their extensive experience to bear, working alongside Lyn Garner and members from the public sector to support the delivery of thousands of new homes and jobs at #TempleQuarter. They are: Richard Meier, a masterplanning specialist who lives near Bath and is co-founder and CEO of purpose-led developer Stories. Claudette Forbes, born and brought up in St Paul's in Bristol and a former executive director at the London Development Agency. André Gibbs, a specialist in development and infrastructure financing, with extensive experience of similar large-scale regeneration schemes, including King's Cross and Brent Cross Town in London. David Biggs, former Managing Director at Network Rail Property, with non-executive experience at a Registered Social Landlord. This is an exciting time for Bristol Temple Quarter. We are soon to finish the hunt for a private sector partner, our masterplan for St Philip’s Marsh continues at pace, and the Southern Gateway goes to planning committee in November. Lyn Garner, Chair of the BTQ LLP Board, said: “I’m thrilled to have appointed such a strong group of non-executive directors at a pivotal time for Bristol Temple Quarter. They will use their experience and expertise to support the LLP team through the next stages of its development across a range of matters from finance to development to community engagement, helping us to deliver quality placemaking, new homes and new opportunities for people in the region.” The new members will join colleagues from Bristol City Council, Homes England and West of England Mayoral Combined Authority on the LLP board.

Really pleased to be a finalist in the Governance Initiative category in the Property Week ESG awards this year. We're doing a lot of work to pioneer and embed formal-relational principles in to our property development partnerships, so it means a lot to be recognised for it. Here's looking at you for the inspiration Government Outcomes Lab, University of Oxford, Blavatnik School of Government, University of Oxford 😘 #ESGEDGEPW

Our friends LifeProven ESG Property Company have done a lovely job summarising how we at Stories ask the same four questions of all of our projects and at every stage. The questions are borne of a commitment to triple bottom line outcomes to which we have added a 'deliverability' test. Leave us a comment below and we can send you some more information about how it has come together and why it works.
"We believe in the power of places to change people's lives." That's the philosophy driving Stories, the purpose-led development company we hosted on the latest ESG in Property Podcast. Co-founders Paul Clark and James Scott shared how they've built something different - staying founder-owned and bootstrapped with no external shareholders demanding quick returns. This gives them what most developers don't have: patience and flexibility. "We focus on projects where there's a real clear purpose and intention to delivering something more than just financial return," James explained. But they face three big challenges that make this difficult: Community value means different things to different people. Residents want security and green space. Councils focus on affordable housing numbers. Investors seek stable returns. These priorities are rarely aligned. The planning system is rigid in practice despite being flexible in theory. And the economics often don't support the outcomes communities actually need. Their solution? A framework that asks the right questions at every stage. Paul shared: "We spend longer thinking harder than some might. We actively lean in to the complexity where other people might decide that's not their job." 👆 Swipe through to discover their Four Questions Framework and see how they turn these challenges into opportunities. "The quest for economic growth dominates political discourse. But what if housing and development were focused on broader measures of progress?" Clare Goff explores the subject of wellbeing in development in the lastest The Developer and Festival of Place magazine, and mentions our work with Mayday Saxonvale https://lnkd.in/ezD_dsQj
