HOW WE WORK Narrative & People are the core of our work, whether as audiences going on an adventure led by our highly skilled collective of immersive performers, or as community participants working alongside them to learn new skills and make new connections, or the friends we make in the locations in which we perform – many of whom have little to no contact with the Arts in their everyday lives. TEATRO VIVO AIMS TO: Shine a light on forgotten or neglected places and spaces, bringing high quality and exciting theatre to parts of London and the UK that might not normally experience it. Embed ourselves in every location in which we perform – collaborating with local people, businesses and organisations and rehearsing in public whenever possible Offer opportunities for community participants to work alongside our professional company, learning new skills and creating connections across often divided communities Make immersive work accessible to all: All our shows are designed to be wheelchair friendly and we have specialist stewards available to act as personal guides to any audience member with additional needs. What a thrill I had this morning - getting to work with one of my favourite theatre companies Teatro Vivo on their new organisational strategy. Every time I see one of their site-specific shows with the brilliant Mark Stevenson and Kas Darley, I’m reminded of the power of theatre to connect us and make us see the world around us differently. Definitely feel blessed to be playing a small part in their continuing journey.

And so our 20th anniversary look back arrives at our 20th year. And 2025 has been a busy one: We’ve created Orpheus and the Underworld in #Weymouth, The Myths of the Marshes in #Purfleetonthames and a version of Macbeth lit only by moonlight in the Dorset woods. We’ve been working with communities in #downham to develop a show inspired by the Downham Wall and before the year is out we’re performing bits of #Beowulf at the The British Museum, providing performers fo Donnie Darko in #Bridport and we’ll be bringing back our Christmas sing-along in #Lewisham. Thanks for all the support over the years. We couldn’t keep doing all these things without the amazing audiences, participants, performers and crew that make Teatro Vivo special. Happy 20th anniversary to you all. For our 20th anniversary we’re up to October 2024 and our commission from Start Thurrock which led to The Mystery of The Missing Market in #SouthOckendon. We asked hundreds of locals what a show in the area should be about. They came up with the idea of a site-specific detective caper around the big shops on Derwent Parade including song and dance numbers performed by the local community. The locals helped write the lyrics, performed dances, and developed the whole show idea. We’re continuing our 20th Anniversary look back with a less public aspect of our work. Since 2023 we’ve run monthly workshops in #Lewisham for Adults with Learning Disabilities in association with Mencap Lewisham. Originally at Ignition Brewery and now at the Leemore Centre, these fun sessions are run by Kat Gill and Jo Carey and are funded by City Bridge Foundation.
