Last week, we had the opportunity to visit Marian, Inc. at The Battery Show in Detroit. Marian is a world leader in manufacturing die-cut electric vehicle and battery components. In addition to providing innovative solutions for the automotive battery market, Marian also manufactures non-automotive battery components used in electronics, medical devices, and more. Jon is especially familiar with their work, having seen Marian’s precision die-cut components throughout his 33-year career in the battery industry. 🏆 Day 3 Winners of the 2025 Battery Awards Announced! 🏆 The Battery Show North America wrapped up its Battery Awards 2025 celebration with two incredible winners in key industry categories: 🔹 Artificial Intelligence Battery Startup of the Year: Congratulations to Sandbox AQ (left photo) for their groundbreaking work in Accelerating Battery Failure Prediction! 🔹 Sustainable Battery Solution of the Year: Kudos to HyCap Energy (right photo) for their innovative Graphene Hybrid Supercapacitor—non-toxic, nonflammable, UL-certified, and fully recyclable! These awards, presented by conference chair Bob Galyen, highlight the visionaries driving innovation and sustainability in the battery industry.

The Battery Show always go by so fast, and it was an excellent week for ReJoule! Five days, four site visits, multiple meals with friends, and hundreds of conversations later, I'm going going back back to Cali Cali. This was the first big battery event post EV tax credits in the US. This also happened on the heels of billions of energy funding cancelled by the Department of Energy last week (including ReJoule's $10M award). Everybody's spirit should be doom and gloom, right? Wrong! It was more of a "let's roll up our sleeves and get to work" sentiment. 💪🏻 Turns out. Most people who are in the battery and EV industry aren't just in it to make a buck. Most people care deeply about energy and supply chain resilience. Most people are extremely passionate about America and the west staying competitive in the future of mobility and energy. Instead of doom and gloom, what I saw was people wanting to use their talents and energy towards making things better for future generations. It's people like Felix Paul Wagner and the Circunomics team and Antoni Tong from Smartville Inc., Divyanshu Purohit, Sindhu Seethamraju , Michael Coraci, and many, many more that, day in and day out, are building circular, resilient supply chains and resilient energy infrastructure. 🔋 The excitement and hope is still very much alive. EVs aren't going away. Neither are we. When I had a free afternoon, I had the privilege of visiting the Henry Ford Museum of American Innovation. This really helped put things in perspective. Less than 120 years ago, the Model T came out and revolutionized mobility and helped define modern lifestyle. Today in 2025, I'm typing this on a handheld supercomputer with all the world's information at my fingertips boarding a commercial plane across the country. The battery and automotive industry is going through some tough times ahead, but things will be alright. Technical Takeaways from The Battery Show 🔋⚡ Following up on my last post — here is what stood out to me: 🔹 #Lithium-ion #batteries weren’t represented so much by the cell makers, but rather by #materials and #equipment providers — both traditional and alternative. Great to see innovation from companies like Sakuu (3D printing) and Ateios Systems (PFA-free electrodes). 🔹 Alternative chemistries are gaining traction. #Sodium-ion is carving out its first beachhead markets with strong showings from Peak Energy, Rincell, and UNIGRID Battery. 🔹 #SolidState batteries are moving from concept to reality — not only in #EVs, but also finding their way into humanoid #robots (great discussions with Schaeffler team). 🔹 Module and pack developers have their hands full — with demand across residential #storage, #UPS, and even starter batteries. Despite the political and macroeconomic headwinds, the show was well attended — a strong reminder of this industry’s resilience and strategic importance. Batteries aren’t just about mobility anymore; they’re foundational to #energy security, #defense, and industrial competitiveness.

The life of a “Battery Show” girl ⚡️ Last week was non-stop. From the Volta Foundation retreat (where I shared the sales vision for the next 6-months) straight into The Battery Show North America! Highlights? Meeting Stan Whittingham at the Siemens event, catching up with Bob Galyen as well as hosting our Women in Batteries meetup. Loved seeing so many familiar faces and building on connections from past events. It’s amazing to walk into a room full of people who genuinely support and advocate for one another. We also hosted our epic Executive Connect, followed by a packed Wednesday; member breakfast, Parker Lord Women in EV luncheon and of course, the legendary Volta Social. By Thursday, I somehow still had the stamina to host the Volta Foundation 5K run before finally getting time to explore a section of the expo, meeting some incredible companies that could bring real value to the Volta network (and collecting more than 50 business cards along the way!). Not to forget the panel session celebrating Women Entrepreneurs moderated by Alyssia Bostrom and panelists including Carol Hirschmugl, Ghazaleh Nazari, Jill Pestana and Dr. Veronika Wright (Obersteiner). Superstars! To top it all off, hockey with Dana Bubonovich and Friday a visit to the Henry Ford Museum with Jill Pestana for reflection time.
