As #NationalHCAW comes to a close, we’re highlighting just how normalised anti-Gypsy hate has become in UK media. Here’s a GB News contributor saying: “These people are literally defecating and living like gypsies – perhaps they even are gypsies.” This is racism. Plain and simple. We won’t stay silent. Neither should you. #OperationReportHate

Another day, another headline fuelling hate! This kind of reporting is not harmless, it stokes division, reinforces dangerous stereotypes, and misrepresents real communities and cultures. ⚠️ These headlines turn deeply rooted Romani and Irish Traveller traditions into clickbait, stripping away history, meaning, and identity for the sake of sensationalism. 🛑 Language matters. Headlines like this contribute to a climate where racism, discrimination, and violence are normalised. 📣That’s why this #NationalHCAW, we've partnered with Stop Funding Hate to challenge this harmful media. We all have a role to play, report hate, wherever you see it. 🤝Together, we can push back against media that fuels hostility and division.

Yesterday, we showed you how to report hate speech in written media. Today, we're highlighting another example of harmful coverage that fuels racial tension. 📰 An article targeting Appleby, an event deeply important to many Romani (Gypsies) and Irish Traveller communities, misrepresents a cultural tradition that deserves respect, not vilification. 🐎 Pony trap racing, also known as sulky racing, is more than just a sport. It's a cherished cultural practice, passed down through generations. For many, it represents pride, heritage, and resistance in the face of ongoing marginalisation. 📢 This #NationalHCAW, we're urging everyone to take action. Media that spreads harmful stereotypes and fuels hate must be called out. ✊ We’ve partnered with Stop Funding Hate for #OperationReportHate to challenge this kind of reporting, because hate has no place in our media. 🛑 Report coverage that fuels racial hatred. Speak out. Stand up. Take action.
