Today is the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty. Poverty isn’t just about income- it’s about access. In many rural and low-income communities across sub-Saharan Africa, the lack of safe and reliable transport limits access to healthcare, education, and livelihoods, and increases vulnerability on the roads. Last week, the Transaid-led Driving Safety Across Ghana (DSAG) project team was in the Northern Region to support field officers with delivering sensitisation sessions to truck drivers, as part of ongoing efforts to improve road safety in Ghana. More than 200 drivers from multiple transport hubs took part in sessions covering three key topics using newly developed factsheets: 🔹 Fitness to drive: understanding health, rest, and alertness 🔹 Vehicle pre-inspection: ensuring vehicles are safe before setting off 🔹 What to do in the event of a breakdown Project Manager Thelma Bonney was joined in the field by Lucas O'Brien, a GXO Logistics, Inc. Management Apprentice on secondment with Transaid, who is supporting project delivery. Supporter spotlight: Bryan's 25 in 25 Cycle Challenge for Transaid! 🚴 Our amazing supporter Bryan Semple is taking on his toughest fundraising adventure to date in support of Transaid! This October, Bryan is embarking on an epic 1,000km off-road cycle across four African countries, starting from the majestic Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe, riding through the dramatic desert mountain landscapes of Botswana and Namibia, and finishing three weeks later in Cape Town, South Africa. Not only will he be cycling off-road, but the challenge also includes days of hiking and three weeks of camping. Bryan has been a proud supporter of Transaid since 2018, helping us fund life-saving healthcare and road safety projects across sub-Saharan Africa. Thank you Bryan!
