As part of our ongoing work to strengthen access to healthcare in rural areas, Transaid recently conducted refresher training for 131 community health volunteers in Serenje and Chitambo Districts in Zambia. The sessions focused on strengthening confidence and practical skills, including: 🔹 Identifying danger signs of severe malaria and maternal health emergencies 🔹 Using rectal artesunate (RAS) as a vital pre-referral treatment for severe malaria 🔹 Boosting volunteers’ knowledge and decision-making to save lives in their own communities Community health volunteers are often the first point of care in these remote areas, and the skills they hold can mean the difference between life and death. By equipping them with up-to-date training and tools, we’re helping more people access the right care at the right time. #accesstohealthcare #communityhealthcare #transformlives

Today is the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty. Poverty isn’t just about income- it’s about access. In many rural and low-income communities across sub-Saharan Africa, the lack of safe and reliable transport limits access to healthcare, education, and livelihoods, and increases vulnerability on the roads. At Transaid, we’re working with local partners to change this by improving community transport, strengthening emergency referral systems, and supporting road safety through professional driver training. Last week, the Transaid-led Driving Safety Across Ghana (DSAG) project team was in the Northern Region to support field officers with delivering sensitisation sessions to truck drivers, as part of ongoing efforts to improve road safety in Ghana. More than 200 drivers from multiple transport hubs took part in sessions covering three key topics using newly developed factsheets: 🔹 Fitness to drive: understanding health, rest, and alertness 🔹 Vehicle pre-inspection: ensuring vehicles are safe before setting off 🔹 What to do in the event of a breakdown Project Manager Thelma Bonney was joined in the field by Lucas O'Brien, a GXO Logistics, Inc. Management Apprentice on secondment with Transaid, who is supporting project delivery.
