Ever wondered what it’s like to sit in the driver’s cab of a Tram? 🚋 Our drivers see first-hand just how important it is for everyone to look both ways before crossing Tram lines. Unlike cars, Trams can’t swerve, and they need more time to stop. 🛑 That’s why a quick glance left and right makes such a big difference. It keeps you safe and helps keep the whole network running smoothly.
Transport for London
Non-profit Organizations
The world's most iconic transport network. 🌍
About us
Every day, we help millions of people to make journeys across London: By Tube, bus, tram, car, bike – and more. People don’t associate us with journeys by river, on foot or via the air, but we help with that, too. Getting people to where they need to go has been our business for over 100 years, and it shows. We’re leaders in our field, and no other city’s transport system is quite as recognisable: Red buses, black taxis, Tube trains and roundels have become icons in their own right. Our main job is to keep the city moving, working and growing but to do that, we have to listen. Constant improvements across the network are fuelled by feedback and comments from customers, as well as work within communities, representative groups, businesses and other London transport stakeholders. But our progress also depends on technology and data. With the future at our fingertips, we’ve already used it to revolutionise travel payments (think Oyster and contactless payment cards), and improved travel information. Tech and data is essential, not just to our future, but to others’: third parties use our data to power apps and services vital to customer journeys. So what’s next? As well as continuing to deliver Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan’s strategy and commitments on transport, our programme of capital investments is still one of the largest. We launched the Elizabeth line, we’re modernising services and stations and making travel safer for all.

Everyone deserves to feel safe on London’s transport network 💙 For National Hate Crime Awareness Week and beyond, we’re sharing real stories of people who made a difference by being active bystanders and acting like a friend by stepping in, showing kindness, and helping to defuse difficult situations. Because sometimes, being there for someone is all it takes. If they can act like a friend, so can you. Transport for London reposted this
Following a recent roundtable I chaired with Transport for London and our members on the proposed DLR extension to Thamesmead - kindly hosted by Peabody and Lendlease - here are some reflections in this week's BusinessLDN blog: https://lnkd.in/e3dYp_b9 #transport #DLR #infrastructure #London #Budget
A full house for our roundtable on plans to extend the Docklands Light Railway to Thamesmead today, hosted alongside Peabody and Lendlease, chaired by our Dr Polyvios Polyviou. Achieving London's stretching 88,000 new homes a year target depends on new transport infrastructure. Extending the DLR has the potential to unlock sites for up to 25,000-30,000 new homes along the route - creating thousands of new jobs and adding more than £15bn in economic activity across UK-wide supply chains in the process. Great to hear from Alex Williams, Manish Gupta and Matthew Yates from Transport for London about how proposals for the shovel-ready project have been developed over recent years. Extensions to existing rail lines are a tried and tested method for catalysing development in the capital, as demonstrated by the Northern Line extension to Battersea. Recent TfL consultations on the DLR proposals have shown overwhelming public support for delivery. Whilst the summer Spending Review promised a much-needed long-term financial settlement for TfL, it pledged only warm words for the DLR extension, rather than funding. The upcoming Autumn Statement is the Government's opportunity to get behind this project, which can provide a huge boost to its growth, skills and housing missions. Huge thanks to our hosts Kate Greenaway and Ed Mayes, and for your questions and contributions Misa von Tunzelman FCIM, Tom Horne, Alexander Jan, James W., Jo Moffatt, Chris Whitehouse, Andrew Todd and Tom Bouwens.

We’re proud to see our Chief Operating Officer, Claire Mann, share her story as part of the global #ThisLittleGirlIsMe campaign - alongside Elizabeth McKay, Director and CEO of the London Transport Museum, and Emma Hignett, Voice Over Artist behind some of our network announcements. 👏 Check out their inspiring stories celebrating women in transport here: https://lnkd.in/d8xvjMGR
Each year, Inspiring Girls International runs a global online campaign to celebrate International Day of the Girl #ThisLittleGirlIsMe. To celebrate, we are showcasing some of the inspirational Women who are driving change in our industry: Claire Mann, Chief Operating Officer at Transport for London My dad said to me when I was 24 “I didn’t know you wanted to be a train driver when you grew up?” Nor did I… As a 9-year-old going to my local village school in west Dorset I had no idea what my future would bring. Living in a village where the railway had been closed and there was one bus a week to town, I never expected I would take up a career in transport but what a rewarding career it has been. I loved languages and having dropped out of Polytechnic thought I may work abroad one day. I started my career in transport at 19, I didn’t know what to expect but what I did know is that my dad had always been clear that working hard, doing what you enjoy, and treating people with love and respect were the most important things in life. If he were here today, I think he would be proud of that little girl who became a train driver and has continued a career in transport in Bus and Rail, and now as Chief Operating Officer at TfL. Every day I am grateful for the opportunities I have had and am proud to work in transport helping people to connect with each other and to support many young women who want to grow in the industry. My daughter Daisy knows that to be happy in life and have a great career you must be true to yourself and your values, work hard and be kind. This little girl is me 👉 Read more stories from inspiring women across our industry here: https://shorturl.at/Yxq14 #Bus #Coach #CommunityTransport #BetterTogether #thislittlegirlisme

While inspecting the 207 bus at West Ealing, Operation Officer Paul Lancaster noticed an 11-year-old boy in distress after being separated from his older brother on the way to Ealing Broadway. Paul quickly stepped in to help, searching the bus and surrounding area, making calls to the family and reassuring the young passenger throughout. When the brother couldn’t be located, Paul worked with the boy’s mother to agree a safe plan. He ensured the boy boarded the next 207, arranged for him to sit near the driver and followed up to confirm he made it home safely. This kind of care and commitment is at the heart of how our teams support customers every day, keeping journeys safe and giving reassurance when it matters most. 💙 Thank you, Paul, for your quick thinking and compassion. 👏
