The future of the world is safe! I know this because I met so many thoughtful, smart, kind, interesting and interested students when I volunteered twice last week at the Leeds University Business School as a Leader in Residence. Their global, humanitarian and responsibility-taking perspectives were deeply impressive. We can rely on them (but mustn't mess it up for them before they take on leadership, and must consult and collaborate with them now)! The marketing students from Rome and University of Leeds presented their two inspirational international social innovation concepts at the Social Venture Bootcamp on Tuesday evening, and it was a pleasure to be asked to speak about my social entrepreneurship journey alongside Dawn O'Keefe and Becky Dam. And then supporting MSc Management Studies students through a mock assessment centre exercise and mock interviews on Friday was satisfyingly hard work - we could see the progress they made in 4 hours as they soaked up the experience, feedback and suggestions. Thank you, students, for sharing your ambitions and insights, I will definitely bring some of these to bear on my work at the social venture I run, Trust Leeds. Today Trust Leeds was doing #FearlessWithFinance at our 'Getting Going & Growing' workshop for early stage kitchen table entrepreneurs. A great array of businesses, a right mix of experiences, and a common desire to get to grips with financial management. This project is funded by the UK Government through UK Shared Prosperity Fund... prosperity and financial viability were at the heart of it. Our members rolled-up their sleeves on cashflow forecasting and stress-testing, and invested their own time and energy in building their financial confidence and power. Now for 1:1 mentoring and another workshop to consolidate learning. A huge thank you to co-presenter Rhiannon-Amber Leavett, and to the 'Wise Owls' who spent the day alongside members to support, sense-check and add a different perspective Malcolm Hall Sandy Needham OBE DLSally-Anne Greenfield Gary Wilson-Poe. Wow - another blitz meeting with members of the senior management programme at Royal London. Together we've created #TeamAmoeba as part of the The Royal London Changemakers programme, run in partnership with the School for Social Entrepreneurs to support Trust Leeds in developing its system-disrupting #microfinance offer for replication. After a day's project work to understand the challenges and map a way forward, the Royal London #TeamAmeoba gave a presentation to peers and other #socialenterprises - one of which was so taken with the idea they've asked to be a pilot! I so admire the work of Dawn O'Keefe of Shine Workspace (Leeds) in developing their #SheCanShine enterprise support programme. Today's workshop was entitled 'Fearless with Finance' - a fabulously informative and up-beat way to support female entrepreneurs in getting to grips with their finances. Trust Leeds was there to chat about our micro-finance offer, and, thanks to feedback from Dawn O'Keefe and members of her programme, alongside our #BeYourOwnBoss members, we know that this is an area where kitchen table entrepreneurs appreciate confidence-boosting support.
