We’re proud to share that our Decommissioning Manager has been invited to represent Urenco Capenhurst as part of the Nuclear Industry Group Land Quality (NIGLQ). Oliver leads the site’s land quality portfolio through an integrated One Capenhurst approach and his invitation to join NIGLQ is a testament to his expertise and leadership in the field. This is a fantastic achievement and a brilliant opportunity to collaborate with peers across the nuclear industry, share best practices and contribute to continuous improvements. #UrencoNuclearStewardship #OneCapenhurst

We’re pleased to welcome Elizabeth and Linge to Urenco as our first interns from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Marie Sklodowska-Curie Fellowship Programme (MSCFP). Urenco has supported this industry-leading initiative for over five years and has been a committed #SocialImpact partner since its founding in 2020. The #MSCFP aims to increase the number of #WomenInNuclear by offering scholarships and internship opportunities. Elizabeth, a recent graduate in Nuclear Fusion from TU Eindhoven, and Linge, currently studying Chemical Engineering with a nuclear specialisation at TU Delft, will gain hands-on experience across our UK enrichment facility. Their passion and drive are inspiring, and we’re excited to support their journey in #NuclearScience. More here: https://ow.ly/73Yv50WBUFF #STEM #NuclearCareers

  • One of our engineers, recently took part in the ‘Dream Big’ STEM event organised by Healthier Futures at a local school in Cheshire. The event was facilitated by Akerlof and aimed to inspire young people to ‘dream big’ about their future careers, including those who don’t think maths, tech, engineering or science is for them. Over 60 pupils took part in the event which involved a number of sessions including activities around health, construction and engineering. A key part of the day was where groups of students got to meet a range of local employers and take part in activities relevant to their areas of work. Our engineer ran a session around building bridges and cars out of every day items such as straws, wooden dowels, lollipop sticks and cotton reels to represent the engineering element of Urenco’s work. Our Engineer and STEM Ambassador, said: “It was a great opportunity to be able to take part in the Dream Big event to inspire young people to think about careers within the STEM sectors. “It was particularly interesting to be a part of conversations with the young people and hear the questions that they had about Urenco and the skills they would need to do the job of an engineer. “I would encourage other colleagues to get involved with future STEM events as it was an extremely rewarding experience to represent the company in supporting young people to learn the skills they need in order to grow the STEM professionals of the future.” Thank you to our colleague for dedicating his time to this worthwhile cause.

We’re proud to announce another first for Urenco: we will provide enrichment services for nuclear power plants in… Slovakia! Our new, long-term agreement with Slovenské elektrárne ensures a diversified supply of enrichment well into the 2030s, supporting both the country’s #EnergySecurity and #CleanEnergy. We attended a signing event in the capital, Bratislava, and would like to thank both Slovenské elektrárne, as well as the British Ambassador to Slovakia, Nigel Baker OBE MVO and the embassy staff for their support. • Recently, a group of colleagues rolled up their sleeves and spent the day volunteering at Chester Zoo, supporting their vital conservation work. One of the main tasks? Cutting and bundling willow branches, a key part of the rhinos’ diet! It was no small feat, but the team brought energy, enthusiasm, and incredible teamwork to the challenge. From prepping food for the rhinos to sharing laughs over lunch, the day was filled with collaboration, camaraderie, and a shared sense of purpose. A huge thank you to everyone who took part, you made a real difference and showed what we can achieve when we come together. 💪🌍 #Volunteering #Teamwork #ConservationInAction #ChesterZoo #EmployeeEngagement #MakingADifference

  • On Monday, 30th June two of our colleagues represented us at the Chester Zoo STEM Symposium. The event organised by Cheshire and Warrington Careers Hub in partnership with Chester Zoo, STEM Learning UK, Pledge Partnership and local industry leaders aimed to help integrate industry-relevant skills and experiences into school and college curriculum planning. More than 100 teachers and businesses from Cheshire’s science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) sectors including Urenco, came together for a full day of workshops and networking in order to shape a sustainable offer for students, allowing them to have the skills and work experience opportunities needed for the future. One of our STEM Ambassadors in attendance, said: “The symposium was a great opportunity to engage and network directly with teachers and industry leaders from the local area. “I personally learned a lot about the opportunities and barriers faced by educational settings and young people around choosing and engaging with STEM subjects. Urenco and other companies within the north west science corridor have a key role in supporting and ensuring STEM careers are embedded within the curriculum. We want young people to have the skills they need to grow the STEM professionals of the future.”

With increasing demand for #lowcarbon energy to fuel data centres and help us reach #netzero policy goals, we need reliable sources more than ever. In an insightful piece for Engineering Magazine, our Head of Advanced Fuels, Magnus Mori highlights how innovation in nuclear fuels, such as HALEU and LEU+, enables the nuclear energy industry to meet these demands and deliver #energysecurity. Magnus raises some key points: ✔️ advanced fuels will play a crucial role in enhancing energy security by diversifying the nuclear fuel supply chain and reducing reliance on a single source ✔️ by enabling more efficient and sustainable nuclear power generation, these fuels further contribute to reducing carbon emissions. At Urenco, we’re setting the pace for the development of advanced nuclear fuels, with our HALEU facility under construction at our UK site. This will be the first commercial facility of its kind in the Western world. Read the full piece here: https://shorturl.at/pq8mc
