What are the differences between 'dual beam,' 'dual constellation,' and 'dual frequency'? We often use these terms to quickly describe how to enable built-in signal redundancy on your GNSS hardware. Dual beam describes when you have two (or more) GNSS receivers on board that are locked onto two different L-band beams. This setup provides dual beam redundancy, so your operations can continue working if one L-band is interrupted. Dual frequency refers to your GNSS receiver's ability to monitor and decode two (or more) frequencies sent from GNSS satellites. These satellites output L1 and L2 radio frequencies, and corrections services are also broadcast within these frequencies. Having dual frequency capabilities provides even further redundancy to your operations. Dual constellation is used to identify whether your GNSS receiver can use two (or more) constellations to generate a position. There are multiple GNSS constellations operated worldwide, including GPS, Galileo, GLONASS, and more. When signals from two different constellations are used together to provide a position, for example GPS and GLONASS, this is known as dual constellation.
