They say every little helps and as our mission starts with "playing our part in changing the perception of hospitality....." so it is with the environment. As such The Hospitality Junior Board C.I.C is proud to partner with Swinton Estate through their Nourish programme, an initiative dedicated to creating positive environmental impact across North Yorkshire. As part of this collaboration, we’re planting one tree for every cohort member, mentor, and board member who joins the HJB community, leaving a lasting legacy for both our environment and our sector. We were joined by HJB Chair Philip Bolson, along with members Becky Tatham, Ella Caton, and Jack Depledge, to start planting the trees that will make up our own little forest! Next month, we’ll add ten more. By the end of 2026, we’ll have planted 100 - not massive but we are proud of it 😀 This initiative proudly supports York and North Yorkshire’s ambition to become England’s first carbon-negative region, showing how hospitality can lead the way in climate action, community impact, and regional pride. The Hospitality Junior Board C.I.C
Hospitality
We reflect the real face of hospitality and exist to play our part in making hospitality a career of choice.
About us
The Hospitality Junior Board unites a diverse cohort of young managers from across the sector. It seeks to support and develop them through a variety of activities. Simultaneously, it serves as a platform to transform the sector’s perception, advocating for its value and potential as a great career choice. Our mission is to "play our part in changing the perception of the sector and making it a career of choice". We have 5 objectives: 1) Build a supportive community 2) Identify future leaders 3) Build life skills 4) Promote the sector 5) Influence influencers Why is this needed? Because the hospitality industry is one of the cornerstones of our economy, yet it’s often misunderstood and undervalued. Young professionals in this sector (and those considering it as a career) face unique challenges, from navigating career paths to combating negative stereotypes. The Hospitality Junior Board exists to address these challenges head-on by providing support, training, and a sense of community. It’s about building the future leaders who will drive innovation, champion sustainability, and elevate the industry’s reputation.

It was great to see some of The Hospitality Junior Board C.I.C out at the York careers fair a couple of weeks ago. Young people talking to young people about careers in hospitality has to be the way to go. So much more relevant, so much more compelling! Well done team! #hospitality #careers #rolemodel
The Junior Hospitality Board set up base at the York Food Festival to discuss the fabulous hospitality sector! From giving interview tips, to discussing cover letters and how to get your career kick started in hospitality ⭐ We loved seeing so many young people eager to learn more about the industry — their curiosity and passion were infectious! Now it’s time to dive into the data we collected and start pulling insights together for our final project! #juniorboard #hospitality Joe Gregory Poppy Clara Roberts Isabelle Ratcliffe Philip Bolson Alex McLeod The Hospitality Junior Board C.I.C

".....guidance, advice, and a pair of ears to listen...." An important part of The Hospitality Junior Board C.I.C is the community they join and this includes having access to a mentor. Each member of the board has a mentor - someone to talk to about whatever they need to talk about - and of course the topics are wide and impactful. Thank you to Jordan Gray MIH, Ops Manager The Coniston Hotel Country Estate & Spa who in the attached talks briefly about the role of mentor. It is great to have you as part of the team! Thank you to all our mentors who are helping this programme go from strength to strength. All of them can be seen on our new website; https://lnkd.in/eNmxweiU #hospitality #mentors #careers #skills

Really pleased to "launch" our website this week. Thank you to Punch Hospitality for building this with me and whilst of course we are biased we think it looks great 👏 In the site you will find out about what it is, why it is needed, how it works, and most importantly who is involved including the current cohort, past cohort members, mentors, exec committee, support team, and our sponsors. As it says on the home page we love hospitality and "...are building a movement - one rooted in friendship and kindness, fuelled by peer to peer discussion, and driven by a shared belief in hospitality as a force for good". If you want to chat about it please DM me or complete the "get involved" section on the site. #hospitality #careers #community #skills https://lnkd.in/dC6-W6NY

"I have been around a while and back when I started a 6 day contract and hours AFD (if you know you know) was the norm - things have got so much better" It was wonderful to be interviewed by one of our amazing sponsors RotaCloud recently to talk to Patrick Still re all things hospitality in relation to managing and spotting the signs of stress along with planning for what can be the busiest time for many venues, Christmas... We will share the links to the posts from Rota Cloud as they come out. Thank you to Claire Tuton and Remya George for setting it up. #hospitality #careers

"Never mind that - what is that thing there...." These were the magic words Louise Wright MIH said to me back in the summer of 2023 when I was developing the idea of a Hospitality Junior Board. I was meeting her about something (can't remember what...) and I had the draft HJB document out on the table. Louise quickly realised this was something Punch Hospitality would be keen to support and then became the first sponsor for what we now know as The Hospitality Junior Board C.I.C - the rest as they say is history... Starting up anything new is hard work and as such we all need people who believe in what we do, champion what we do, and more importantly people who then actively support - this is what Louise and the team at Punch Hospitality did. Their support and belief encouraged me to find more support and to launch it in November that year - 18 months on and we are just finalising the website and working on a couple of other exciting initiatives. The down size is that I then ask Louise to do "just a short film" saying why you got involved - easy. However I have to say that this little film is brilliant so thank you Louise 🙏 If you want to find out more about what the HJB is and why we do it then please drop us a note! #hospitality #support

Thank you for your support Punch Hospitality! You were the first to get behind this initiative and believe in the good it can do 🙏 We can’t just leave the future of the sector to the bigger, more traditional organisations - we all have a responsibility to do our part and so this is our #onething Lots of things happening that will be launched soon! #hospitality #careers #skills
We love shouting about our partnership with the The Hospitality Junior Board C.I.C ! The HJB unites a diverse group of young hospitality professionals from across the sector, developing them through hands-on activities while transforming perceptions of hospitality as a career of choice. Its mission is simple but vital: change the perception of the sector and make it a career people choose with pride. If you’re interested in partnering, get in touch with Philip Bolson. Because the future of our industry is too important to leave to chance. #PunchHospitality #HospitalityCareers #FutureLeaders #HospitalityJuniorBoard

"....I found myself in a place full of energy, kindness, and community..." I love this and it reflects all that The Hospitality Junior Board C.I.C is trying to do - build a supportive community that is kind and that reflects the real face of hospitality. In fact we believe "kindness" is the most important thing and as such we think it is a #superpower In this article Alex McLeod, team leader at the York Dungeon, part of Merlin Entertainments and member of the latest The Hospitality Junior Board C.I.C cohort talks about some of his roles (some good some not so much 🤣) and the power it can have on how someone feels, and reflects that it is always the team, the people around him that have made the difference. It is great having Alex on the latest cohort of The Hospitality Junior Board C.I.C bringing a fresh and unique perspective to the world of hospitality that we love so much! #hospitality #kindness #team #careers

It’s always great to catch up with past cohort members of The Hospitality Junior Board C.I.C and today I had the pleasure of catching up with Lauren McCullagh, Group Business meetings and Events supervisor for Hand Picked Hotels It was wonderful to hear about her progress and achievements since being on the last cohort, earlier this year - sounds like the meeting event business is doing well! One of the objectives of The Hospitality Junior Board C.I.C is to build a supportive community. The HJB provides this - a space to just talk, to share, listen, and yes, learn. But most of all to be part of something! It was lovely to catch up 😀 #hospitality #careers #personalgrowth
