A historic media shift. For the first time, social has overtaken commercial TV in time spent. The latest IPA TouchPoints report shows how different the UK media landscape looks today: 📱 More time spent with Mobile than the TV set for the first time. 🌐 Media fragmentation has increased 60% over the last decade with no channel now taking over 25% share for the first time. 🚏 Outdoor, Functional Internet & Social = Top 3 reach channels in that order. 👫 Social now has higher weekly reach than Commercial TV for the first time. 📊 Facebook is the UK’s biggest media property (followed by YouTube, ITV). 📼 Online Video (BVOD, SVOD, Other Online video) now accounts for 15% of all commercial media time, still behind Commercial TV (21%) The report is a genuine eye-opener. Nearly two years after debuting its Amplify retail media play, David Jones has chalked up 1,000 bespoke brand campaigns, including 50 with non-endemic partners, and extended what’s on offer through to onsite dynamic display and enabling first-party data activation for third-party DSPs both onsite and office. CMO James Holloman says its “landed FY25 to our business expectations” and is confident it can deliver on future retail media ambitions. Having previously cited these ambitions are to sit above the average $30m-35m per year retail media other retailers are generating, Holloman is confident the retailer has the goods to deliver on future retail media ambitions. In FY26, he’s banking on expanded first-party audience targeting of millions of Australia’s luxury and premium buying consumers – a base soon to be bolstered by the debut of David Jones’ new rewards program that’ll give shoppers the ability to earn and redeem Qantas Frequent Flyer points plus a new mobile app – plus a highly curated brand selection and campaign approach, fresh digital screens at half a dozen refurbished stores, and growing DSP, planning and measurement integrations, to accomplish it. https://lnkd.in/g5SHhDaR

UK ad spend is rising faster than the economy. The latest Advertising Association / WARC Expenditure Report has dropped and it shows that adspend is up 8% in Q1 2025, led by growth in search (+12.3%) and online display (+10.1%). That gap says a lot about where marketers are placing their bets: short-term performance, measurable outcomes, and formats that can flex with shifting priorities. It also reflects the pressure brands are under. With sluggish GDP growth and tighter scrutiny on budgets, advertisers are looking for ways to do more with less - reallocating spend toward agile, efficient digital channels. But that shift only works if the underlying infrastructure can support it. Without full visibility into how spend is delivered and what value it returns, performance-led buying can quickly become performance assumed buying. That’s where transparent, efficient programmatic systems make a real difference. When every impression is trackable and every pound accountable, brands can react faster, spend smarter, and build trust into every transaction.
