Following a successful first year, Howden Re and Moody's Analytics have launched the second phase of their reciprocal early careers exchange programme, deepening cross-sector collaboration to address data and modelling gaps across reinsurance and vendor platforms.   Amid intensifying climate risk and increasing demand for tailored catastrophe modelling, the programme aims to accelerate data-driven insight into risk development by strengthening both firms’ analytical, modelling, and client service capabilities, while expanding participants’ professional experience across markets.   Myrto Papaspiliou, Head of Catastrophe Model Research at Howden Re International commented: “This programme focuses on embedding analytical excellence at the centre of collaborative problem solving. We’re building joint expertise that feeds directly into better risk understanding for clients.”   Last year, the programme’s impact was especially evident following major flood events in Germany, Central and Eastern Europe, and Spain in 2024. Moody’s secondees were instrumental in advancing Howden Re’s event response capabilities and developing climate-conditioned, more detailed views of risk across multiple European models, drawing on complex meteorological and historical loss data.   This year, the programme is growing both in scale and geographical reach, with secondments taking place across London, Zurich and Prague.   The programme’s expansion comes at a time when clients are demanding greater transparency and agility in catastrophe modelling, and as reinsurers look to refine their views of risk in the face of increasingly volatile event patterns. The life insurance industry faces complex challenges that demand actuarial expertise. As highlighted in Martin Considine's article, three issues dominated discussions at our recent Appointed Actuaries Forum. • IDII sustainability remains elusive. Despite extensive work by the Contract Terms Working Group, no solution has yet earned the "green light" under customer-centricity principles. The search continues for an approach that maintains insurable interest whilst delivering sustainable premiums. • Financial advice reform is gaining momentum. The Help, Guidance and Advice framework under DBFO could transform outcomes for the 85% of Australians currently without advice. However, guidance appears underdeveloped, and superannuation funds hold the key to success. • Genetics regulation brings new complexities. The Government's total ban on using adverse genetic testing results will reshape underwriting practices. The real question now is how we measure effectiveness when the ban limits data collection for future reviews. AMBREY – COMPANY NEWS The Global Operations Centre (GOC) has recently completed several internal collaboration visits with Ambrey’s insurance division, including a tour of Lloyd’s of London. These visits have provided the GOC team with a broader understanding of its own role within the wider organisation and how it supports Ambrey’s overall operations. The engagements offered insight into Ambrey Global Specialty (AGS) and highlighted how the GOC’s work enables AGS to take a data-driven, holistic approach to insurance, utilising tools such as Asset Screening Assessments (ASA) and our Guardian services. During the visit, AGS Managing Director Nick Maddalena outlined the insurance team’s responsibilities in managing group insurance matters and the operations of Ambrey Global Specialty, our Marine War MGA. He commented: “The visits we have hosted are extremely valuable – Guardian is warranted in all our policies, and it’s great to be able to provide an insight into how we manage Ambrey’s insurance business.” Each visit concluded with a trip to the Bank of England Museum, where the teams had the unique opportunity to hold a gold bar valued at approximately one million pounds.
