The Trust is pleased to announce that Buckinghamshire has been selected to join the first wave of the National Neighbourhood Health Implementation Programme (NNHIP). This is a major national initiative designed to transform the NHS over the next decade by delivering high-quality, joined-up care closer to people’s homes. Buckinghamshire is one of only 43 successful applicants chosen from 141 submissions nationwide. The selection recognises the county’s evolving neighbourhood model and the strong commitment to collaborative working across health, care, the voluntary and community sector, and wider partners. The programme will support the development of integrated neighbourhood health services across Buckinghamshire, with a specific focus on High Wycombe, North Buckinghamshire, Beaconsfield and Marlow. The neighbourhood teams will bring together professionals from Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust, Primary care led by Bucks GP Provider Alliance, Oxford Health NHS Foundation Trust, Buckinghamshire Council, voluntary, community, and social enterprise organisations, pharmacy, optometry and dentistry services. The Government praised Buckinghamshire’s application for its innovation, ambition, and strong local collaboration. The programme will build on existing work and experience, supporting sites through collaborative learning, coaching, implementation and support to roll out this new vision for health care in local communities. It is about working with partners to move services to fit around the needs of people and communities, being more proactive in providing support and using all the skills of our excellent teams and the voluntary sector. Julie Bass, Chief Executive at Turning Point, welcomes reported progress on the NHS scheme to expand the use of FibroScan within community settings: "At Turning Point, we support over 14,000 people with alcohol-related issues each year, and we’re witnessing a worrying rise in referrals for end-stage liver disease. To respond to this urgent need, we invested in FibroScan equipment across all our drug and alcohol services to increase the availability of this simple non-invasive procedure which assesses someone’s liver health." "In 2024/5 alone, we delivered 7,448 Fibroscans across the organisation, a 300% rise on the previous year." "It is great to see the success of the NHS scheme and we fully support the early detection allowing intervention before irreversible damage occurs, saving lives and reducing demand on the NHS."

Our latest report, Bringing healthcare home: A blueprint for collaborative clinical homecare, features a national survey of NHS professionals involved in the delivery of homecare. The results are clear: 92% say homecare increases NHS capacity. 90% say it delivers cost savings. 71% say it improves access for patients. But there’s a warning too. If the NHS had to fully fund clinical homecare, 49% said fewer patients would be able to access it. This report calls for urgent action to protect and strengthen this vital service.
