PRs: It always baffles me that brands are willing to spend £££ on surveys and reports to collate data for media releases, yet so few of the PR pitches I get are based on data from FOI (Freedom of Information Act) requests. FOI data is both independent and reputable (big ticks for journalists) - and it costs you nothing, except time. There is nothing stopping anyone submitting an FOI request - you certainly don't have to be a journalist to do it - and you can find some killer stories by using them. Nearly two years after debuting its Amplify retail media play, David Jones has chalked up 1,000 bespoke brand campaigns, including 50 with non-endemic partners, and extended what’s on offer through to onsite dynamic display and enabling first-party data activation for third-party DSPs both onsite and office. CMO James Holloman says its “landed FY25 to our business expectations” and is confident it can deliver on future retail media ambitions. Having previously cited these ambitions are to sit above the average $30m-35m per year retail media other retailers are generating, Holloman is confident the retailer has the goods to deliver on future retail media ambitions. In FY26, he’s banking on expanded first-party audience targeting of millions of Australia’s luxury and premium buying consumers – a base soon to be bolstered by the debut of David Jones’ new rewards program that’ll give shoppers the ability to earn and redeem Qantas Frequent Flyer points plus a new mobile app – plus a highly curated brand selection and campaign approach, fresh digital screens at half a dozen refurbished stores, and growing DSP, planning and measurement integrations, to accomplish it. https://lnkd.in/g5SHhDaR

Brands and companies wanting to ramp up their creator work is a wonderful thing. But now we have another challenge - how do we deliver creator scale? Saw a great post by Tom Cornish who nailed it - scaling creator marketing isn't just about doing more. You can't just multiply creators, campaigns, or content 20 times over. (Especially not with AI shortcuts… YouTube are cracking down on AI-generated content, protecting authentic creators over content farms. AI might handle stuff like assets - see Unilever's approach - but we have to scale while maintaining authenticity. And scaling humans is hard!) As Tom mentioned, media distribution is key to scaling influencer strategy. Not more content, but more ways for audiences to consume it - like Sidemen Entertainment making content that works across Netflix, live events, merchandise, and social simultaneously. We’re wanting to solve the access and resources issue with Arcade Creative, giving brands direct access to the Sidemen ecosystem to co-create culturally resonant partnerships. Which leads me to my final thought: the importance of creator teams. There's worry about AI replacing managers and workflows, but if we scale influencer marketing properly, creators having the right infrastructure becomes more important than ever. Scale isn't about volume. Especially when more volume often means poorer or diluted content. It's about integration. Choosing the right creator, fitting within and being additive to their ecosystem, making multi-channel content with them. We’re entering a new cycle as an industry, the creator publisher, and it’s an exciting time for brands to access deeply engaged audiences, built on peer to peer trust.
