From October, all Waitrose & Partners pork mince, steaks, chops and joints will be free-range, with a commitment to make all of their own-brand British pork free-range by 2027. Alongside this, the welfare rating label, shown in the image, will be included on all Waitrose pork products to help their customers make informed decisions, and Waitrose continue to call for stronger meat labelling legislation in the UK. Great recognition of Hilton Foods Seachill in Tesco’s recent blog on crustacean welfare.🦐   Last year, we were one of the first companies in our industry to publish an animal welfare policy dedicated to crustaceans. Since then, we’ve taken our commitment even further, extending our target to remove eye-stalk ablation (removal) across the whole Hilton Foods business. Following our Asahi UK Executive Committee's visit to a hop farm last week, we showcased our FOR HOPS initiative with the Royal Agricultural University at the British Beer & Pub Association Brewing Green event in Parliament this week, hosted by Jacob Collier. With only 45 hop growers left in the UK, and some farmers' yields down as much as 50% this year following the dry summer, supporting this industry to adapt in response to climate threats and build resilience is more critical than ever. At Red Tractor we take upholding standards for responsible food production extremely seriously. Every day, thousands of Red Tractor assured farmers go above and beyond, caring for their animals, producing safe food, and safeguarding the reputation of UK agriculture. Audits provide a snapshot in time, but assurance is about continuous care. To hold farmers to this promise, in some higher risk sectors we make unannounced and more frequent visits. We also require vets to visit on a regular basis. In more serious cases, such as where serious neglect or mistreatment of animals is found, we will suspend a farm’s certification immediately, pending investigation. We act decisively, proportionately and consistently, investigating thoroughly, requiring corrective measures, and monitoring ongoing compliance. Certification is only reinstated if we are completely satisfied our standards are met. We also provide an anonymous whistle-blowing service and actively encourage anyone with concerns to raise these as soon as possible so that we can investigate and ensure animal welfare. We understand how important maintaining trust is to the entire supply chain, particularly consumers, retailers and the farming community. Dutch retailer will not accept new products with lowest health score The Dutch retailer Dirk van de Broek announced that they will not accept new products with the lowest health score on the Nutriscore label.
