The Privacy Job Market is picking up. But not for all privacy roles! I spoke with Tom Woods, a data protection recruiter focused on privacy, data governance, and AI governance roles across the UK, Europe, and the US. We discussed the job market for privacy roles. According to Tom, the market is stable and picking up. But there are significant differences in demand depending on the role. ➕ In demand: People who can manage DSRs, privacy workflows, and liaise with the business. Companies are looking for Privacy Managers. ➖ Limited demand: Senior leadership roles: Chief Privacy Officer and Director-level roles are limited. It's better in the US than in Europe according to Tom. Why is that? Are EU companies more focused on cutting costs - or is it because these senior roles aren’t moving around? Any suggestions for this development? In next week’s Openli community newsletter, I’ll share more insights into the privacy job market. But it would be great to includes perspectives on the reasons behind these differences.

I was privileged to be present at the first UK Cyber Flywheel event last week, focused on supporting UK cyber startups to becoming major market players. Many of the early stage companies also present spoke of the importance of their design partners and how that collaboration was key to them refining their use cases and developing real solutions. I've been fortunate to find many friendly and, most importantly, critical people willing to engage early on in the design of Huntbase. Many of us find this process difficult when focusing on UK businesses as partners. Startups need honest feedback and enterprises need their fresh thinking. It should be a symbiotic thing. In order to create more impact through innovation we need more leaders, including CISOs, willing to take a meeting, share a problem, and test a solution. If you're sitting on a challenge that your current stack can't solve, reach out to the UK startup ecosystem through organisations and events like UK Cyber Flywheel's. If you're a founder with a solution looking for more real-world validation, don't wait for the perfect intro, make the ask, then keep asking till you find the right partners. Thanks again to Alastair Paterson and the team at Harmonic Security as well as the founders, speakers, and organisers. It was a lot of fun and hopefully first of many to come. Interesting X thread on what might be the biggest IP theft in history. Seems like Silicon Valley might be lagging behind algorithmic trading. Many of the leading Options Technology clients are way more concerned about IP theft by staff (notably developers) than getting breached by external actors. DLP focussed security posture and monitoring is a top priority. When we've audited new clients in the onboarding process DLP has tended to be an afterthought or overlooked entirely by the previous MSP/IT teams. There have been a few notable hacks in the sector over the summer that standard data leakage monitoring would have prevented. Marlena Efstratopoulou Christian Arpino
