🧬𝗦𝗧𝗔𝗥𝗧-𝗨𝗣 𝗢𝗙 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗪𝗘𝗘𝗞🧬 (suggestions for the next one always welcome 🙂) This week we’re turning to antibody-drug conjugates (ADCs), with a closer look at Myricx Bio, a UK-based biotech working on a 𝗻𝗲𝘄 𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗮𝗰𝗵 𝘁𝗼 𝗔𝗗𝗖 𝗽𝗮𝘆𝗹𝗼𝗮𝗱𝘀. 🔬 Myricx is a spinout from Imperial College London and the Francis Crick Institute, and is developing NMTi-ADCs - a novel class of ADCs based on 𝗶𝗻𝗵𝗶𝗯𝗶𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗡-𝗺𝘆𝗿𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗼𝘆𝗹𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗳𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘀𝗲 (𝗡𝗠𝗧), an enzyme involved in protein lipidation. Unlike most ADCs that act via microtubule disruption or DNA damage, NMTi payloads offer a 𝗱𝗶𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗺𝗼𝗱𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 that may allow for better efficacy and safety, particularly in solid tumours. 📊 Their preclinical data are very promising, with potent and durable tumour regressions across multiple models (including patient-derived xenografts) and activity in tumour types resistant to standard ADC payloads. 💰 Last year we witnessed an impressive (and quite rare for the UK biotech scene) £𝟵𝟬𝗠 𝗦𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗔, led by Novo Holdings and Abingworth, which is being used to progress the pipeline towards the 𝗰𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗰 (𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗻𝗲𝗱 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲), with their lead candidate now nominated and IND-enabling studies underway. 🧑‍🔬👩‍🔬 There’s a 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗲𝗮𝗺 behind the project, bringing deep expertise in the ADC space, from co-founders Ed Tate and Roberto Solari to CEO Robin Carr (ex GSK) and CSO Francesca Zammarchi (from ADC Therapeutics).
