The Welsh Government has confirmed an increase of £10 million to the available funding for the Development Bank of Wales to help accelerate the decarbonisation and circular economy efforts of Welsh businesses. The Green Business Loan Scheme has so far supported over 30 Welsh businesses who have benefitted from tailored support through the scheme, delivering forecasted carbon savings of more than 28,000 tonnes over the lifetime of their projects. This includes a loan of £3.2 million for Mold-based Thorncliffe Building Supplies to invest in a new recycled aggregate wash plant and water treatment system that will reduce the company’s use of landfill. https://lnkd.in/effWBJ3c

Grants totalling over £500,000 are being awarded to help fund nearly 40 schemes to reduce flooding in Oxfordshire. We received more than 80 applications for our priority action grants earlier this year from groups and organisations working to make their communities more resilient to flooding. Following an assessment process, 39 schemes are being supported with grants of up to £25,000, subject to confirmation. It is fantastic that these groups are so committed to improving the situation where they live. When it comes to knowing what is needed to tackle flooding in a particular area, local communities are often the experts. Some good news to share this week – ourselves and ClwydAlyn Housing have been awarded a Welsh Government-funded SMART Partnership to drive innovation in sustainable housing. The collaboration will create innovative and sustainable housing solutions in North Wales and beyond. The project aims to contribute to the energy efficiency of new build homes using renewable energy sources, thus reducing operational energy costs for residents and lowering ClwydAlyn’s environmental impact. The goal is to set an example of how affordable and sustainable housing can be developed benefitting both the community and the environment. Laura Gough, Head of Enterprise at the University, said: ‘We are delighted to have secured this funding which will assist ClwydAlyn in its mission towards carbon net zero housing and which will also feed into our sustainability and renewable energy curriculum. “We will be looking to recruit a graduate with computing expertise to work directly on the project, likely to start in September for 12 months.” Read more about the project – including more about the graduate vacancy – here: https://orlo.uk/y2oYi
