Today we launched a collaborative industry pilot project on the delivery of tokenised sterling deposits (GBTD). Following the Chancellor’s recent Mansion House and Leeds Reform speeches, Quant, alongside a coalition of leading financial institutions and industry participants, has signed a letter urging the UK to adopt a national stablecoin strategy. As the letter highlights, stablecoins are not just ‘crypto assets’, they are emerging as core financial infrastructure that could: ✅ Reinforce Sterling’s international role ✅ Diversify demand for UK government debt ✅ Drive investment, jobs, and innovation in fintech ✅ Boost efficiency in cross-border trade & settlement The message is clear: while other jurisdictions race ahead, the UK risks missing a transformative moment. The UK government is set to appoint a “digital markets champion” to lead and coordinate private sector efforts to tokenise wholesale financial markets — part of a broader strategy to modernise how assets are issued, traded, cleared, and settled using blockchain and AI. Unveiled by Economic Secretary to the Treasury Lucy Rigby at Digital Assets Week in London, the announcement is part of the UK’s Wholesale Financial Markets Digital Strategy, which also includes: 🔹 The launch of the Dematerialisation Market Action Taskforce to accelerate the transition away from paper share certificates. 🔹 Progress on DIGIT (digital gilts) — representing sovereign debt on blockchain — with the government now inviting bids from technology suppliers. This marks a significant milestone in the UK’s vision to stay at the forefront of financial innovation, bridging traditional markets with cutting-edge technology.

We’re proud to share that Ondo Finance’s OUSG fund is the sole anchor and largest investor in Fidelity’s new tokenized fund, Fidelity Digital Interest Token (FDIT). Fidelity’s entry marks another major milestone in the institutional embrace of tokenization. We’re encouraged to see this momentum and proud that Ondo is playing a pivotal role in catalyzing adoption, liquidity, and infrastructure through OUSG. When Ondo launched OUSG in January 2023, it was one of the first tokens to provide investors with exposure to U.S. Treasuries onchain. That early step has since been followed by major institutions. The subsequent launch of the BlackRock USD Institutional Digital Liquidity Fund (BUIDL) in March 2024 introduced a meaningful step forward for tokenized Treasuries, particularly through its integration with Circle to enable instant redemptions to USDC. Cointelegraph reports: The US Treasury has signaled that verified digital IDs could play a key role in tackling illicit finance risks in decentralized finance (DeFi). Adding identity verification in smart contracts can help ensure that users are properly checked before executing transactions. Nikita Dunets, Deputy Director of Digital Identity Verification at Regula, comments: “US regulators have always had concerns about crypto assets for multiple reasons: they can’t track the source of the income, the owner’s identity, KYC procedures on crypto platforms, etc. I would say that by using verified digital credentials (e.g., government-issued IDs, biometrics, or portable identity wallets), financial institutions can more accurately verify users during the initial onboarding. This makes it much harder for bad actors to create fake accounts or operate through anonymous wallets for money laundering—and this is exactly what US regulators want. Moreover, Digital IDs can be linked to sanctions lists, PEP databases, and transaction monitoring systems, which is very important. At the same time, by using decentralized identity frameworks, users can hold their credentials in a digital wallet and decide what to share with each service provider. Personal data can be encrypted or tokenized so institutions can only deal with verified tokens instead of the actual ID data. Regarding other data privacy concerns, the industry best practice is the shift from centralized ID databases (obvious targets for hackers) to federated or, for example, blockchain-based ID systems where credentials are cryptographically verified but not centrally stored. However, as we know, it's quite complex for a huge government machine to set up such an infrastructure and environment for financial institutions—and this is the main challenge. It is also worth encouraging sandbox frameworks where DeFi projects can test digital ID solutions under regulatory guidance.
