Berwick Bank Wind Farm has received development consent from The Scottish Government, clearing the final major approval to progress this game-changing renewable energy project. We spoke with Paul Cooley Director of Offshore Wind at SSE Renewables, who highlighted the immense scale and national and global significance of Berwick Bank: 🔹At 4.1GW, it would become the largest offshore wind farm in the world if fully delivered, capable of powering over six million homes annually 🔹 It would be expected to over £8billion in economic value to the UK and create around 9,300 UK jobs at peak construction, including 4,650 in Scotland 🔹 It could boost Scotland’s operational renewable electricity capacity by nearly 25%, accelerating the journey to net zero by 2045 Paul described it as: “A fantastic achievement not just for SSE, but for Scotland – and for our collective effort to tackle climate change.”   Watch the video below to find out more.

✅ Consent granted for Dunoon overhead line rebuild We’re pleased to confirm that Scottish Ministers have granted Section 37 consent for our proposed 132kV overhead line rebuild between Dunoon and Loch Long, a vital upgrade to strengthen local electricity infrastructure and support Scotland’s clean power ambitions. Great to see the Rt Hon Ed Miliband MP, Energy Secretary, reaffirm the vital role of CCUS in delivering jobs for the future. During his recent appearance at the Energy Security and Net Zero Committee, the Secretary of State made it clear: “Unless you build the future in carbon capture and storage, offshore wind, hydrogen... we will not replace the jobs that are declining.” CCUS is not just a climate solution - it’s a vital aspect of our Industrial Strategy and is key to: ✅ Protecting existing jobs and creating new, high-quality roles in industrial heartlands ✅ Safeguarding our foundational industries – like cement, chemicals and refining ✅ Enabling the production of low-carbon goods As the Secretary of State emphasised, the clean energy sector is already growing three times faster than the wider economy - driven in part by the cross-party consensus on climate action and investment of vital technologies like CCUS. This united approach has enabled the UK to make significant progress, but we must keep up the momentum. SP Energy Networks was proud to headline the Community Energy Scotland Annual Conference 2025, held on 24 September at the COSLA Conference Centre in Edinburgh.
