Cardiovascular disease (CVD) continues to be a major health burden, particularly in communities experiencing higher levels of deprivation. Community pharmacies are ideally placed to address the health inequalities seen in cardiovascular diseases. They are accessible and often walkable for around 90% of the population. To harness this potential we are working with Barts Health NHS Trust ELoPE East London Cardiovascular Disease Prevention, Community Pharmacy NEL, NHS North East London and HEART UK - The Cholesterol Charity to pilot a new rapid lipid testing service in community pharmacies. Pathfinder sites have started to prescribe lipid lowering therapy creating a pathway from testing to prescribing and contributing to the NHS 10-year plan. The test takes just seven minutes, providing a full lipid breakdown and calculates a person’s risk of developing a heart attack or stroke over the next 10 years. This test is currently being rolled out in pharmacies in North East and North Central London. Tristel plc, which makes bug-busting products for hospitals, opened lower on the UK stock market despite another fantastic financial performance in the year to June 30. The share price fell 3.50p to 354.50p despite a rising dividend and a fine all-round set of results. The company announced 23 per cent growth in adjusted pre-tax profits and strong cash generation - trading in line with both market expectations and internal performance targets. A triple whammy saw Tristel Global deliver another year of double-digit revenue growth, strong growth in pre-tax profits and robust cash generation from operations. It continues to be debt free and end of year cash and short-term investments balances were £12.8 million. Turnover rose 11 per cent to £46.5m (2024: £41.9m) with adjusted pre-tax profit up 23 per cent to £10.1m (£8.2m); reported pre-tax profit is up 18 per cent to £8.4m (£7.1m). The icing on the cake is the full-year dividend – five per cent ahead to 14.20p (13.52p). Highlights included the company winning FDA clearance for Tristel OPH, a high-level disinfectant (HLD) foam for use on ophthalmic medical devices which further underlined the potential for huge future sales in the US. The company has now appointed a new CFO in Anna Wasyl, launched a new ultrasound probe decontamination product, Tristel VISICLEAN™, and seen Q1 sales of its DUO ULT more than double the return from the whole of the first half of 2024. A 90-day study in partnership with Mayo Clinic concluded that Tristel ULT was an effective and efficient method for HLD, offering a safe, easy process that reduces medical damage to ultrasound probes. Tristel chief executive Matthew Sassone said: “This performance reflects the strength of our core business, robust cash generation and continued disciplined execution, enabling us to increase the dividend while maintaining a debt-free balance sheet. “With Anna joining the Board, new product launches including VISICLEAN™, and a solid cash position, we remain confident in our ability to deliver sustained revenue growth, strong profitability and attractive shareholder returns.” Full article – https://lnkd.in/e8A4yrBK

"We aspire to move faster than other countries and really set the standards,” MHRA CEO Lawrence Tallon says in new interview with the Financial Times as he sets out his ambitions for the agency. Our Gastroenterology colleagues have successfully introduced another biosimilar medicine (Ustekinumab) for the treatment of patients with Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD), as part of ongoing efforts to enhance care and improve value for the NHS. This is the third biosimilar product to be implemented at OUH for IBD, which includes long-term conditions such as Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis. The move is part of a nationally-supported approach to safely and effectively expand the use of biosimilar medicines across the NHS. Biosimilars are highly similar versions of already approved biological medicines. They are assessed and authorised according to the same rigorous standards of pharmaceutical quality, safety, and clinical effectiveness that apply to all biological treatments. The move to Ustekinumab, along with previous biosimilar switches, has saved the Trust an estimated £4.9 million – funds which can be reinvested into patient care and service improvements. The changeover to the biosimilar was carefully planned, with the pharmacy team, IBD specialist nurses, and consultant team all integral to the process, and colleagues ensured there was careful communication with and support for affected patients. Those patients who had additional questions or concerns were offered appointments in ad-hoc clinics, where they could discuss the change directly with a consultant and specialist pharmacist. 🗣️ Dr Oliver Brain, Consultant Gastroenterologist at OUH, said: “Good disease control is vital in managing inflammatory bowel disease, and we are pleased to have introduced this additional treatment option safely and smoothly.
