🏡 Birmingham City Council, in partnership with EQUANS, has retrofitted over 2,000 council homes, helping tenants save up to £1,200 annually on energy bills. PUBLIC PRACTICE
At the launch of our Recruitment & Skills Report 2025, we asked attendees what skills are most needed in public sector planning. The live poll placed Project Management, Design, Town Planning and Placeshaping at the top, alongside Digital, Retrofit and Environmental skills. Yet our report shows that recruitment pipelines remain concentrated in Policy and Planning roles, with far fewer posts planned in these high-demand areas. At a time when local government must lead on housing, infrastructure and climate action, the gap between recognised skills needs and current recruitment practice underlines the ongoing capacity challenges facing local authority teams.
