Was a member of the decision making process in the selection process for a new Datacentre provider. Once the selection was made I was responsible for the design and planning of the move. The team including myself then complete the move in a number of out of hours moves with no impact to the business. This project was delivered to tight time scales due to contractual constraints imposed by our previous supplier.

As part of a Head Office relocation I was tasked with designing a 'hot desking' environment to enable users to work more flexibly due to restricted office space. By deploying a Virtual desktop Infrastructure we were able to deliver greater agility to the business allowing user to be more productive whether they were in the office on the road or working form home. This has transformed the desktop experience for users in this office which had seem a lack of investment prior to the divestment form… Show more

After starting my role at Waterstones the separation of the two business was well under way how ever there was still the task of spiting the infrastructure. There were several key areas which required consideration due to there current shared hardware.
Email and web security was a group wide deployment and as a result of this Waterstones needed to deploy their own solution this included Internet connectivity, Firewalls, switches, routers, proxies and mail relays. Secondly, Waterstones were going to take on the responsibility of waterstones.com. The only part of of the infrastructure which was owned by Waterstones were the server. This involved implementing new firewall infrastructure and network switching.
Finally the Waterstones Loyalty system shared storage infrastructure with HMV this also had to be separated. We deployed an new NetApp Filer which not only delivered the separation but also a significant increase on performance which addressed issues which we had experienced over the previous peak trading period.
This project was delivered on time and with no issues an little down time. This despite the extremely tight deadlines. A great achievement by all involved. Show less
