After Brexit and the implementation of the Windsor Framework, the MHRA no longer required 2D data matrix codes on medicine packs, prompting some manufacturers to remove them. However, at Accord, we chose to take a more forward-thinking approach. We recognised that many stakeholders in the NHS and supply chain partners had already invested in scanning infrastructure. Anticipating the growing significance of 2D codes for developments like electronic product information (ePI), Accord made the strategic decision to keep 2D codes on all prescription packs. With increasing calls across the industry for their reinstatement, we are proud to have stayed aligned with the needs of the healthcare system. This decision supports greater efficiency in the supply chain and prepares us for the digital future of medicines, including the provision of digital information for patients. Sad industry news. Roberts Bakery has announced plans to potentially close its manufacturing facility located in Ilkeston. The business has described the move as a “difficult decision“, which followed a “comprehensive review of the company’s product portfolio, overall footprint and long-term business strategy”. Hallmark adds space to meet rising demand “The new space not only provides us with room to grow over the next three years but also enables us to deliver even more responsive and adaptable fulfilment solutions.” Hallmark Consumer Services has opened a new warehouse at its Grantham site to support rising demand for contract packing and kit assembly. The expansion increases the company’s overall storage capacity by 40 per cent and enhances operational efficiency. The new facility, which provides convenient access to the A1, will allow the firm to handle a broader range and higher volume of goods, supporting its growing client base. Read about how we introduced changes to the menus in its staff canteen last year as part of a collaboration with US non-profit organisation Greener by Default. A new article in The Doctor, the BMA's blog for interesting articles, explores how our on-site canteen now offers a 50:50 ratio of vegetarian to meat-based meals. Read it here https://lnkd.in/eMv-wtsX The new menus have led to a 40 per cent reduction in the canteen’s carbon footprint, in the main down to a 1/3 reduction in the amount of meat on offer. The RNOH’s initiative also gives discounts to those who bring in their own reusable lunchboxes, or coffee cups, to help incentivise sustainability. The new focus on good nutrition for staff links to a wider issue around how obesity rates are higher among healthcare professionals in England, often linked to to shift work, irregular eating patterns, tough working conditions and poor on-site facilities. Patient nutrition is also central to care delivery at RNOH. For example, RNOH is running an upcoming trial to increase plant-based food offerings among patients with spinal cord injuries (SCI). This is because SCI patients can face neurogenic bowel dysfunction so they benefit from more fibre, a function of a plant-heavy diet. The new food offerings at RNOH is just another example of how we're improving the overall experience of our staff. Happier - and healthier - staff leads to better patient care.
