New data and analysis from Barclays reveals that the UK's investment gap grew by over 30 per cent between 2022 and 2024, with approximately 15 million UK adults now holding over £610 billion of “possible investments” in cash. Investing can play a valuable role in helping individuals grow their wealth over the long term, yet it’s clear that many people are missing out. Barclays is calling for collective action to make investing simpler and more accessible, through industry reforms and consumer support measures such as an FCA-accredited badge for entry-level investment products. New research from Barclays reveals that the UK’s investment gap has grown by over 30% in just two years with 15m UK adults now holding over £610bn of ‘possible investments’ in cash. Investing can deliver better financial outcomes for individuals and supports economic growth. The growing investment gap emphasises that significant efforts are still required to transform the UK into a nation of investors. In recent months, we have seen collaborative action and positive steps from regulators and policymakers – the Advice Guidance Boundary Review and the retail investment reforms announced at Mansion House present a unique opportunity to reshape the UK’s investment culture.  The task now is to turn these reforms into lasting behavioural change, helping savers feel confident, supported and better able to understand risk. Our Banking & Finance team has worked alongside Gateley Legal in advising Metro Bank (UK) on a £50m five-year lending deal with Darwin Leisure Development Fund (DLDF) which owns some of the UK’s leading holiday parks. The deal, comprising a £10m revolving credit facility and a £40m term loan, will provide DLDF with flexible growth financing as it continues to develop and expand its portfolio of high-quality luxury parks and leisure facilities. We are pleased to announce that we have completed a £900m buy-in with the National Grid UK Pension Scheme. The transaction takes the total value of the Scheme’s de-risked liabilities with Rothesay to £4.5bn following a previous £800m buy-in (2020) and a £2.8bn buy-in (2019).
