Boosting EV manufacturing in the West Midlands and North East is central to the future of our automotive industries.   Today at Cenex Expo, Sarah Jones MP announced the DRIVE35 pilot – an initiative that will:   ▪️Support the growth of EV supply chains ▪️Create high-quality jobs across both regions ▪️Keep our automotive sectors globally competitive   Together, the West Midlands and North East represent the UK’s most significant automotive ecosystems. By working in partnership, we can maximise growth, unlock new opportunities and ensure our regions remain leaders in the transition to electric vehicles. Kim McGuinness and I welcome this investment, which is an important step in supporting these high-growth sectors.

Nissan drives forward with electric charging hub “The charging station looks brilliant and is a big step forward in Nissan's EV360 vision, which brings together electric vehicles, zero carbon energy and battery manufacturing.” Nissan Motor Corporation’s Sunderland Plant has launched a £1.4 million charging station for electric heavy goods vehicles (eHGVs), marking a UK first for the automotive supply chain. The facility features seven chargers capable of powering ten trucks at once, supporting 25 electric trucks that will travel over 2.4 million kilometres annually. The charging station is part of Nissan Sunderland’s wider EV36Zero plan, combining electric vehicles, renewable energy and battery production for sustainable manufacturing, aiming to cut approximately 1,500 tonnes of CO2 emissions each year by electrifying the transport of parts and finished vehicles.
