Apprenticeship Assessment: 300+ members joined us on our live webinar this morning, a hot topic and still very much an emerging policy area with multiple moving parts. Still lots of unknowns, but some helpful practical advice on things to consider and start to put in place from AELP Board member panellists: Nichola Hay MBE, Ian Bamford and Charlotte Bosworth - a big thanks to them for taking part. At AELP, we're planning to do a whole load more work on this moving forward into the Autumn. We have another event coming up next week where we are hosting a virtual roundtable discussion for training provider members on the Ofqual consultation on the regulation of apprenticeship assessment, with Ofqual joining us for this. You can register for that here: https://lnkd.in/eyY_vSXi My key takeaways from today: - The need for a roadmap and more clarity on the timelines here. We'll probably start to see revised assessment plans now emerge late in the summer or even early autumn, with starts on those more likely to be in 2026. It feels like the brakes have been partially applied already, which is a good thing as it's critical to get this right the first time, let's not rush it. - The need for suitable transitional and implementation arrangements for revised assessment plans - something we are already talking to the government about. - Practical support and guidance for all providers, especially smaller providers. As I've written about above, more on this to come. - Ensure Ofsted appropriately recognises the uncertainty and changes with apprenticeships as they launch their revised framework and start to inspect from November. Whilst EPA isn't in scope for inspection, moving to a model of more on-programme assessment will bring assessment much closer to the training, with much less demarcation between the two as we have now. The context of apprenticeships reform is something we are already actively talking to Ofsted about ahead of training for inspectors on the revised inspection framework. - Training providers, assessment organisations and employers must get involved too in helping shape evolving individual assessment plans. The majority need tweaks, not wholesale re-creation across the board, and helping shape this outcome is important.
